I have a debt with them, from an Orchard Bank account that was 300.00 Now they want 1812.57. The card was in my grandmothers name who is 87. They called her first and of course she said it is not my debt call my grandaughter, they rattled off her SS# and of course scared the heck out of her and told her they were going to press charges against me for credit card fraud. So I contated them, they would not settle for less than 950.00 i gave my bank info and in the duration of the two weeks that the check was dated for, I had some problems and the account got closed. So now they called me back saying they are coming to my county and arresting me? I told them I would make payments and they would not accept less than 450.00 give them my cc number to secure two payments, I refused and said I would not be put in that position again, I dont have that much, so they (she) told me get an attorney cause I am going to jail for passing a bad check and for credit card fraud since I used my grandmothers card illegally. Now I think I am in more trouble? I found the website and filed a formal complaint with the New York State Office of Attorney
Grievance Committees, she said I do have a grievance because I was threatened, but I should pay my debt? Well who do I pay should I send Burgess money on the returned check?

Got a call yesterday from this office. A Ms. Clark left message saying I was to call the office pertaining to a civil matter against me. Returned call and was told I was listed as a relative/contact for a person I have never heard of. I was told that they were sorry and would take my name off the file. No threats of any kind yet and hope I don't get any.
I called the Ohio office of the Attorney General and they had me call the Federal Trade Commission. Left report with them.

If people paid there bills instead of running from them- pretty much stealing money from the banks and such then you wouldnt have to worry about bill collectors or legal assts. calling you!! If you were gonna pay your bill then it wouldnt of ended up in collections in the 1st place!! and 2nd of all if you agree to pay your bill then the collector doesnt have to threaten so threatening comes only upon refusal!! pay your bills people and stop complaing about collectors!! just remember if you pay your bills then you will never come in contact with a collector of collection agency or law office- you bring these problems upon yourself!! PAY YOUR BILLS AND STOP CRYING!!!!!!!!!!

non-debtor, why don't you take your collector drivel someplace else and crawl back under your rock from whence you came.

This "Law Office of Douglas Burgess" called my number looking for my next door neighbor. It was a voice mail message, so I just transcribed the info. and relayed it to her. Now I'm reading all of your posts, and I'm hoping she doesn't get tangled with them.

They have actually contacted me several times on the same account that has been taken care of. Before the account has been taken care of, I didn't have the money to pay. So they told me to ask family for the money. My family doesn't have the money either. They have hassled me for about 3 years now. Do not give them money, do not deal with them. If you think you still have a debt, contact the actual company. They will give you the info that you need.

Mr. Burgess, if you don't stop calling my home regarding an account for someone that does not live at my number, then I WILL TAKE LEGAL ACTION AGAINST YOU. If I don't answer my phone then it is obvious you don't have the right person. You even leave the name of the person you are trying to reach and I have never heard of them. Stop it now.

I told them that I should have the legal right to see all the information they have so copy it all and send it to the address thay have for me and I'll call them back when I look it over. They didnb't like that but really changed their tune and tone and said they will.

Hello, I too recieved a phone call from this company, and spoke to several people. I'm refusing to pay my debt, because the inital debt from 6 yrs ago was for 250.00, after I lost my job I called the credit card company, explained my situation and had the account froze, I'm still not working, and frankly, it hasn't been a priority, esp when other bills come first. Anyway, 6 years later my mother receives a phone call from Douglas R Burgess Law Office 866-553-4185, asking for a payment of 1500.00 I told them, I understood I owed a debt, but when I was able to pay, I would only pay 250.00, and no more, since that was want the original debt was, and my account was froze. I asked them to give me a couple months, since were had just had a house fire, and I wasn't in the position, a month later a different guy call from the "law firm". I again told him the situation of the difference in money, he told me he would discuss this with the Loan officer, and that he would get them to agree to not proced with suite. I then Laughed, and informed him that first of all that I knew he did not work for the Credit Card company, that the collection company he worked for more them likely bought the debt for 5 cents on the dollar, and that I lived in the State of Texas and that legally they could do nothing, but harass me with phone calls, and since they were a third party by law if I request the phone calls to end by law they could not call me. The guy snapped at me, and got real rude, told me that if I knew the law so well them to kiss his ass, then he claimed by law he could call me every 3 days, and that He would, I informed him that was not true, and informed him to ceast phone calls and to never call me again, he yelled some more and threatened I hung up, and received 3 calls immediately after that were automated. I haven't heard from them in a few weeks, but waiting. Most important thing is know the law in your state, and don't let them sucker you in.

This Burgess guy is NOT an attorney from New Jersey. He happens to have the same exact name of a good, reputable, attorney in New Jersey who is in no way affiliated with Douglas R Burgess law firm. As the one in NJ does not have a firm with his whole name in it, and his middle initial is not R, and has never worked in new york. and he has NOTHING to do with collections work. Please make sure when you talk negatively about someone, realize that there are people in this country that have the same name, so specify which Douglas Burgess you are talking about.
