What is NCO up to?

OK so now that I have this 3 in 1 credit monitoring, I notice that NCO (and their subsidiaries) have spent a lot of time in the last year looking at my credit reports from all three bureaus, but they haven't contacted me about anything and they haven't reported anything. Why would a collection pull 7 credit reports from three bureaus in two months and not seem to do anything with it??

Without legitimate reasons, the CA can't touch anyone's file. They just can see it. Perhaps, they were trying to keep a watch on you.

Clay, make sure that NCO has not hit your file with negative remarks in anyway. Certain inquires made by a company also reduce the credit scores. So, if NCO has hit your file, it should be having legal purpose.

They have not reported anything, they just kept pulling my credit reports in June and July of last year, once with equifax, twice with experian and twice with trans union. 4 inquiries show as "miscellaneous, public record" once shows collections, but as far as I know they don't have anything to collect on me for.. nothing from them since then .. weird...

I just had a hospital bill go to NCO and when I called them today to set up payment arrangements they told me they wouldn't set up arrangements and that the balance has to be paid in 30 days or they will start reporting negatively to our credit report. What a crock!!!!

Clay - you are saying that these are hard inquiries?? They might have a suppressed collection account on your credit report, which won't show up in a pull from TrueCredit. You have the Equifax monitoring, if I remember correctly, and though I'm not positive, I'm pretty darn sure that a suppressed account won't show up there either. I would suggest getting a HARD COPY of your report (call whichever credit reporting agency and ask them to mail you a hard copy) and see if it's there. I am in the same situation as you with Federal Bond Collection Services - they have been pulling my credit and yet I couldn't see anything on TrueCredit. When I got an "official" copy from Transunion though, there is was, and it noted that it was suppressed. Just my .02 cents....

Clay, Mary said something that needs a thought. If you ordered online, you need to have a hard copy as well.

There should be only valid inquiries in your file. Dispute the ones you disagree with. It is pointless disputing them with the bureaus as they are not responsible for removing it from your file. Unless the creditor or the CA notifies them to remove it, they hardly have anything to do with it.

Collection inquires are seen very negatively in the credit file. Although, the legitimate ones stay for 2 years only, but you must not allow the incorrect ones to stay in your file for a while also. Contact NCO and get your file rectified by them.

That sounds like the best way to go. I would love to be a fly on the wall if you were to show up there though, LOL!!

Clay

I believe there is an opinion by the justices that what they are doing is illegal. I will try to find it in my archives. I think this is abusive and you can make them pay. Especially if you don't owe them any money.

Like I said, between the three reports they have made 5 inquiries and I have never heard a word from them, and as far as I know any accounts I had that might have been in collections I had have been addressed.
