Hello,

I recently received a call everyday from a company called RAB (aka Regional Adjustment Bureau) and I get this automated message stating that it's a very important call. Has anyone heard of this? or recognize the phone # or anything? I'm really confused what they want from me because I have no idea what kind of debt they are talking about. They don't mention anything in the message except for the phone # and that it's a very important matter. I guess I'm never really available to pick up because I'm working at my job most of the time (they call in the morning-afternoon) and so I'm just trying to find out who these guys are before I talk to them.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks!

Hi quesik

RAB is a collection agency. I guess you should pick up the phone and know the reason of their call. If they have a legitimate reason, you can talk to them further. Here is their address information:

Regional Adjustment Bureau Incorporated

Are they allowed to do this? I know they have called at least one other neighbor, trying to get us to give messages to this particular neighbor. I hope they call again now that I know what their business is!

collection agencies can contact third parties if they are unable to reach the particular person. If you inform them about not making calls to you, they must follow it. Give it a legal effect to it by sending a cease and desist letter. Here is a template you can use.

The cease and desist letter has a legal impact as per the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. Read this one:

I suggest that you send your c & d letter by certified "return receipt requested" mail. And then document every call thoroughly. Every detail you can write down might turn out to be very useful if you have to take additional steps against them.

They called me yesterday to contact my neighbor about a personal matter. I am on the National Do Not Call List. I have filed a complaint with the DNC center. I have also tried to contact these idiots and express to them to not call me, yet I get nowhere.

"Do not call" does not work on a collection agency. It works specifically on telemarketing calls. You need to send a cease and desist communication through certified mail with return receipt requested. Use this template and save a copy in your folder along with the green copy.

I am going to contact our local phone company. I will give them the number but not the fact that I know who they are. They never say who they are. So why should I? Hopefully I can get the phone company to block it without extra costs on my monthly bill. If I can't, I will call from a pay phone and leave them a nasty message. I will simply say WHY I am calling them. But I will use the same system that they do. I won't tell them who I am. But I will tell them, on behalf of everyone, that if they don't stop calling me. I WILL call the phone Co., the FCC, and anyone else that I can think of.

PostPosted: Fri Oct 20, 2006 7:38 pm Subject: they called me tonight

They called my house tonight and asked if so and so was my neighbor that they had tried getting in touch with him, but his number was disconnected. They left the 800 number that was mentioned earlier in the post. Before the last call, it was a computer calling and caller ID would just say "Out Of Area" call and no one would be on the other line. That number has called here at least 20 times in the past few days. Why would they call me to relay a message to my neighbor? If they can get my number, why couldn't they find my neighbor's number. Too strange and gives me the creeps.

Yes, these folks tried to get me to serve as their collection agent and harrass next door neighbors by leaving messsages on their door stop.

The folks in that house were renters and have long since left.

Serving legal notices is risky buisness. They will be lucky if this tatic doesn't catch up to them someday. I'm not getting paid to work for them, so I think they can politely stick it where then sun doesn't shine.

These collection agencies are out of control. I had to pay for changing my last phone number because another company kept calling and asking for someone I've never even heard of.

Frankly, I can't get any peace from these people and I have perfect credit!

Again, I bring up my solution of an air horn. When they call, tell them to stop calling you. When they continue to talk, just give them a shot in the receiver and hang up. Do that enough and they should get the message.

I wouldn't do the air horn thing unless you want to end up getting sued by a collector who can afford a lawyer.

So when they call and you want to find out who is calling you before giving any information- what do you say?

Well, for starters, you can ask "who's calling?"

They can give their name, and the company's name. They are not supposed to give out any account info until they identify the person on the phone as the account holder or spouse. 3rd party disclosure is not permitted--they cannot give out account info to just anyone; only the debtor, spouse, attorney, or authorized representative (like a person with power of attorney on file with the CA).

They have called me looking for a neighbor and when I asked who they are and why they are calling me looking for a neighbor I have never met. The lady got an attitude. I did get her name and when I called back to ask for a manager, guess who they put on the phone!!! Mad I hang up and called back asking for another manager but the man who answered was very rude. I got mean and cursed him once or twice. Then they kept hanging up and calling my house.
Isn't there something we can do to stop them from contacting innocent people? How do they find of anyway? I think they should be in big trouble for harassing and bother innocent citizens!!!
