RJM Acquisitions LLC - What do consumers say about them?

RJM Acquisitions, LLC is a collections agency based in New York. The agency does not have BBB accreditation.

What are the consumer complaints against RJM?

Consumers have had mixed experience while dealing with RJM Acquisitions, LLC. Many have shared their experiences in the forums.

  • Reporting false collections: One of the consumers has claimed that his hopes of obtaining a new home were shattered when he discovered RJM Acquisitions, LLC had reported a false collection to the credit bureaus. The company claimed they were collecting on behalf of One Spirit Book Club, with whom the consumer had never made a purchase! As a result his credit scores took a hit and his lender wanted to increase the interest rate and closing costs for the home loan. The consumer then had to dispute the collections with the credit bureaus.
  • Claiming debts that never existed: Consumers have complained that the company often sends letters stating money is owed on accounts which the consumers never had. One such consumer was surprised when he got a letter from RJM Acquisitions, LLC, which said they would collect money for an account on behalf of Fingerhut. But in reality, the consumer had neither bought anything from Fingerhut nor had applied for a card through them.
  • Reluctance to provide information: It is said that the company is often reluctant to provide information to consumers. A customer requested RJM to send him a letter stating the account has been paid in full. They did not send him any such letter. When he contacted the company later on, they said they could not give him any information and asked his attorney or accountant to call them if he wanted to get further details.
  • Offering credit cards to debtors: RJM Acquisitions, LLC is said to have joined hands with Capital One, which is offering pre-approved credit cards to debtors to pay off accounts held by RJM. Consumers think this is yet another trap laid by the collection agency.
  • Identity theft: A consumer says he got an offer from Capital One, who got the information about him from RJM. But the offer was in someone else's name, who used the consumer's social security account number to get the credit. The consumer feels that RJM may be involved in this matter as they have provided Capital One with the fraudulent account information.
  • Collection of accounts past SOL: As per consumer feedback, the company often comes after the debtors for accounts which are well past the Statute of Limitations (SOL). The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) does not allow debt collectors to collect payments on accounts which have crossed the SOL. But the company is often found to violate this FDCPA rule.
  • Falsifying records: Consumers have also accused RJM of falsifying records.

Is there any positive feedback on the company?

Despite the complaints, one cannot overlook the positive feedback shared by consumers about this collection agency. A few of those good experiences are as follows:

  • One such consumer has praised the company for having helped in improving his credit scores.
  • Another consumer claims that the company was sincere enough to acknowledge that his debt was past the SOL and he would not be sued by them.
  • In certain cases, RJM Acquisitions has worked with consumers to reach a satisfactory settlement or a repayment plan.
  • Some claim that the company did not harass them when they missed payments during the repayment plan.

Has anyone ever had any experiences with RJM Acquisitions LLC NY? I received a letter in the mail from this company about three weeks ago about a fingerhut account that I had 5 years ago (or more).

Hi Rhonda

I found that RJM is a collection agency. They also don't seem to have a good consumers' feedback.

RJM ACQUISITIONS contact details are given below:

Address:
PO BOX 12023
HAUPPAUGE, NY 11788

They use different numbers to call the consumers. Some of the RJM Acquisitions phone numbers have been listed below.

Regards
Roxette

I am dealing with rjm acq llc on a Fingerhut bill also. They have been pretty decent. We worked it out with them that if we didn't take the "free present" that they gave you if you paid off the bill all in one lump sum, that they would settle for about $150 less than they were going to. We told them we would give them $25 a month. I have missed a couple months and they have not said anything, or even called. I just called in and paid by phone when I could. They have been really patient with us at this point.

I also am working with RJM Acquisitions and never had a problem. They actually offered to "help" me with improving my credit. I don't know if I am going to do it..I probably should. They will take 150.00 off my debt and I would have to pay another 192.00 on a Majestic Credit card. Once that is paid I would get issued the real card and my debt is paid in full.

Thanks for your posts! I am trying to buy a house and this is one of the items on my credit report that I need to clean up. I just wanted to see if they would be difficult to make arrangements with.

Rhonda, are you negotiating with RJM Acquisitions LLC to get this item removed from your credit file?

Have rjm acq llc validated the debt as per the fdcpa laws? If it has been done, then it will be better to pay it off as early as possible so that you improve your credit file.

RJM has teamed up with Capital to deceive people with little or no credit. Capital One is offering pre approved credit cards for debt which RJM Acquisitions LLC has accquired. People who are in debt often use credit card offers to get through, but I think this is very close to trickery. Is this legal. thanks

terri,

Offering credit card to those with poor or no credit seems to be fishy. If the person is already in debt, what is the guarantee that he will repay credit card balance in future?

The practice is unfair, but the eligibility criteria of getting a credit card, I think, are defined by the company. So they can offer whatever they want, it is our responsibility to keep ourselves aside from bad things.

I received an offer from Capital One. They got my info from RJM. Trouble is the offer is to John Ragsdale, someone who used my social secuirty number to get credit and RJM Acquisitions passed on this fradulent account information. Shred those credit card offers!!

Please don't neglect the issue. If this 'someone' fails to repay the credit, the responsibilities might come to you since your SS# has been used. Beware of identity theft!

Keep a watchful eye on your credit report just to confirm no abnormal entry is there. You can also place a fraud alert on your credit report if you predict such threats. Contact any credit bureau immediately.

Hi nolsen

Adding to Bryan statements, I also suggest you to change your ssn #. This number is the portal for new credit to be opened in your name by fraudulent activities. You can contact the fraud department of the FTC and get more information on how to change your ssn #

I have two accts, one not much the other sizeable. They gave me the "double" offer and have been paying monthly faithly since march. They took the higher one, sold it to another collection agency and the last check I sent, they forwarded it to that agency. They cashed it and I am not getting my "double" money credit offer like I was, even tho they claim to keep the same payments and arrangements as rjm. I will be calling thisnew company here in a few mins. I had no prior warning to this sale, I sent my payment like normal, now it is all fudged up! I want to clean this up, I have a few things showing on my credit and I want to take care of em.. why do collection companies like RJM Acquisitions LLC make it hard for those who try to do the right thing? I fell like I got a swift kick in the butt. BTW they didnt sell the other acct. GRR!!
