Solicitation Phone Call

Message Author
PostPosted: Mon May 08, 2006 9:26 am Subject: Solicitation Phone Call

I just recieved a phone call from Police Protection at 615-383-4260 and the person conducting the call asked if I would be interested in donating to the funds of the fallen officers families. I could either do a check by phone or charge it to a credit card. I told the gentleman very nicely that we can't afford to donate right now and he stated "Are that heartless that you can't donate $.50 and I said no, would you like to pay my bills for a month and then you would understand whi I can't afford to donate. He told me I was cold hearted and hung up. I don't feel I am cold hearted. Is it normal for a police organization call and request money and have the funds secured by check by phone or credit card. Or am I just reading to much into it with all the scams going on?

Tammy-you have got to call your local police department and tell the the name and number that called you asap-there are alot of scams going on in the name of other originazations. Someone not so savvy may fall for this and give them their bank info. Even if you have the money, never, give your bank or credit card info. Instead, tell them you are goin to hang up and call your local agency, and if it's legit, you will donate.Thank goodness you didn't give them your info!...Karen

I would never give personal information over the phone. I learned a valuable lesson the hard way.

I don't believe that a legitimate charity would ever call some one HEARTLESS...

If anyone was heartless it's him.

According to our sheriffs department, they have had several complaints in regards to this. They stated that if they call again to inform the that I have been in contact with the sheriffs department and hang up. The dispatcher stated that this time of year is the worst for these types of calls. They will not ever get my info on the phone.

Thanks Tammy,

You made me aware of something like this. I wonder if any prestigious organization like the sheriffs will ever use this strategy to raise funds. Fund raisings are done publicly. They won't contact any individual secretly for this purpose. Secondly, donations can't be forced on others. You do that on free will!!!! Isn't it??

I always thought donations were on a persons own free will.

Hmm just checked the ph# out on super pages after getting the call, he was crazi enough to unblock his ph# & request if I were the lady of the house; I requested to take a message & he said I just told u who it was & requested my parents, which we are the adults & residents of this household & than he hung up when I said their not here. I went directly to Superpages.com & got the same info & than tried googles & saw this note, I beleive there is another ph# that appears to be:TLE; I'm originally from NY & terrible it's still people out there hapin on the deceased/traumatized people & their families. Thanks for the Heads up![/i]

When I received any type of solicitation call, I refuse to even listen to them. I say, interrupting if necessary, "No, thank you, not interested" and don't wait for any answer and hang up immediately. I guess over the years I have had so many weirdos and and what have you call and annoy me, that I have become oblivious to them. Some might think I am rude, but it works for me.

Tammy, like you and others here I get so irritated by the people collecting on behalf of the benevolent sheriff's fund, etc. They know that people are likely to want to donate to police and firefighters as a way of showing gratitude.

lol LessIsMore, I love it. There is nothing wrong with being an honest telephone solicitor; as with most things it is the dishonest ones that give all a bad rep.
