Okay, I agreed to pay Sonic in full last Friday and not for it to go through my debt consolidation company. I was out of the office for the past three days due to a death in my family. First, they sent the e-mail to my boss wanting to verify from employment/income. I don't have a problem with that but they also disclosed that I had an open/defaulted loan with them. They try to make it more difficult on you so you just give up. Secondly, I sent a do not call let two weeks ago, which I know they have received via certified mail. I have the signature card, copies of the letter, and first postage. They promised me up and down that they would not contact me at work. I go into work today to find they called twice on Friday and once on Monday. I filed a complaint with my consumer protection office yesterday afternoon. I'm real hesistant about sending them all the money after they repeatedly broke the law. I'm not sure if they will work with T & C now since I promised to send the payment. I know if I state that I don't have the money, it will not work with them. I haven't removed them from my debt consolidation plan yet. Maybe I will fax their collection department tomorrow giving them permission to work with T & C. I'm also going to call the consumer protection office tomorrow to see what can be done with this. I'm just really irritated that I'm trying to do the right thing. I really could use this money for other bills. I'm mailing the paper work also the consumer protection office tomorrow. Should I also file with the state of Pennsylvania and Delaware? I have an address in PA but I would have to find the one in Delaware. Any tips or should I pay it and be done with it?

File your complaint with both PA & Delaware. I will pm you with Delaware address. Sonic is in legal trouble in Canada and being investigated heavily by the authorities there. Don't take any grief from them.

I was worried because I gave verbal consent that I would send full payment this Friday. I was such in a fog under the circumstances though. I have the form for the PA office. I'm going to take care of that today. How do you know they are in legal trouble in Canada? Any help would be appreciated.

Sonic is one of the toughest companies to deal with. They immediately threaten with voluntary wage assignment with an unauthorized digital signature. Keep in mind that if it would have been approved by IRS/government or a court ordered wage assignment, it has to comply with the wage assignment instructions. Also remember that the keyword is ‘Voluntary', so you as well as your payroll dept. have the rights not to authorize it. Keep in touch with your payroll department at your job. They will transfer your entire paycheck to you and won't send anything to Sonic. If you have to pay back Sonic, send it through Western Union Quick Collect. That will be much safer. Change you bank accounts if Sonic is having the details. Do not give the new details in anyway.

Folks, if you have experienced staff in your payroll department, then they must be aware of this wage assignment. They will bring it to your attention before taking any actions. If your payroll department does not have experienced staff, it will be better to inform them in advance about such attempts that can be made by Sonic. In anyway, do not let Sonic intimidate you with such scary tactics.

I've already revoked the wage assignment with Sonic. I sent them a certified letter last week. I contacted my payroll department as well and they said Sonic would need a court order to garnish my wages. That is the only way they will do a wage garnishment. They don't have my new bank account info. The old account has been closed for a few weeks. I filed a complaint with the PA consumer protection office this morning. My debt consolidation company is supposed to get in touch with them today. I'm just not going to put up with their illegal tactics.

Now that you are aware of what Sonic can do in order to recover their money, request your consolidator to get everything in writing from them. You should be known to all the terms and conditions laid by them so that you can plan your strategies. Best of luck!

I got another call from them at work today. How many times do they intend to break the law? I am unable to record phone conversations at work. I did note the date, time, and who called. She said they would turn me over to Universal Fidelity if I don't pay by Friday. Good grief! Now, they are adding more fees on, etc, etc. This is going to be interesting.

Call your counselor at T&C and tell her what they are doing and T&C will handle it from there.

I did call T & C and they are supposed to get in touch with Sonic today. Sonic has now been made aware that I've filed complaints with the attorney general's office in Ohio and PA as well. It will also be sent certified mail tonight. I won't let any of these companies initimidate me anymore. Thanks for all of your help Smile

T & C is waiting to hear back from Sonic today. I sent Sonic a certified letter asking for copies of contracts and payments. We'll see what happens with that.

Sonic continues to break the laws. I would contact your payroll department to see if Sonic has contacted them in any way. You can revoke the wage assignment with Sonic.

They are hard to deal with. More than likely, when they contact your payroll department, they will copy you on the email. But, you should send a certified letter return receipt revoking the wage assignment to cover your bases. Now, when you can gather up a fair amount to make a payment toward your account, send it to them with a letter outlining the payment arrangement you propose and get it paid off ASAP. payday loans are a downward spiral!!

I received a voice mail from my counselor at T & C on Friday. She talked to someone named Derek from Sonic Payday. Tiffany was not available. First, I had to fax in written permission for T & C to discuss my account. Now, they are demanding verbal consent which I had given over the phone on numbers occasions. My counselor also said Derek was very rude with her. I left a voice mail w/Tiffany giving T & C permission to discuss my account with Sonic. It's very frustrating dealing with this company. I'll keep everything documented though. I want this company shut down.

msmishele30,

Hi! hope your having a good weekend. This is a game Sonic plays. Write to them stating you are giving your permission for them to speak with T&C then fax it also. Sonic loves to play games and screw around. Sonic tried that bit with us and I wrote them a note and faxed it saying I (my husbands name) give permission for my wife (my name) to speak to you directly regarding my account. Then I faxed it to them and emailed it to them. That way I had proof they received the permission to speak note.
