I need information on United Legal Corporation in Jacksonville FL I had two guys call me at work stating what I owe. The first guy that called to my work I told him not to call my job. Again I get a call today him telling me if I had an attorney something about fraud I already told him that I've requested not to call my job and by law I have that right anything that he needs to state I want mailed. If he continues to call my work what are my options. Also, do you know anything about this company and how far they will go to collect on a debt. I've experienced collection tatics with Ellis & Crosby and they almost compare to them so any information about United Legal and there tatic to collect a debt would be very helpful.

Hi Dee

Welcome to the forums.

The collection agencies are governed under the Federal laws termed as the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. According to the laws under this act, you are offered protection from the illegal methods used by some debt collectors. If a collection agency is harassing you, send a cease and desist letter to stop all the communication.

It's a pity that many of the collection agencies are not concerned about the stated Federal laws and are regularly in the violation of it. Among them, United Legal Corporation is also short-listed. This is one of those illegal companies that will lie, deceit people and will misrepresent your accounts.

United Legal Corporation will not send you any written documentation and will try in every possible way to intimidate you and your family. They will like to discuss matters over the phone which keeps them in safe side. If you request to send them information through postal service, this is certainly not going to happen. My opinion to you is to avoid them as far as possible.

United Legal Corporation
9000 Regency Square Blvd., Suite 1

There are some other dubious creditors like AmeriCash Advance, LLC, Dollar Financial Group, EZ Payday Cash, Advance SmartCard, GW Financial Services that can be added in this list.

Calling you at work is a violation of the fdcpa law. You can take legal actions against them by filing your complaint at the FTC, BBB and the state attorney general office.

United legal Corporation pretended to be lawyers. My mother who lives in a different state, gave my phone number unknowingly. They called her and informed about an ongoing investigation taking place in my name. she said they I don't live there and he replied very arrogantly. A few days later ‘Tom' called up and said that he was one of my school friend. My mother gave my phone number to him. He called up my girlfriend and enquired about some tax related things. She gave my address and the work phone number. I started getting calls from Eric asking for $940.00 on an account to Goldstar Financial. I have never used such an account and I asked for more information about it. He just didn't say anything about it but kept on threatening me on garnishing my wages if payment is not made within a couple of days. I have already filed bankruptcy in the years 2001 and I have pretty much dealt with such debt collectors. I also knew that my credit was well maintained since my bankruptcy was discharged. Thinking that the “Gold Star” account might have been discharged in bankruptcy, I asked for some verification of this account before I pay it. They don't have any intentions of sending the information and keep calling me at work. I decided to send a cease and desist letter through registered mail with return receipt. I have received the “return” postcard several days later and ‘Eric' claims that he has never received anything. He still calls me at home and work on a daily basis. I will now file complaints where you will say. Thanks

Hi Andrews

Welcome to the forums. Not sending anything in written proves the illicit behavior of the said company. If they have owned your debt genuinely, they would not have shaken in providing the necessary information.

Calling you regularly at work and home is a violation of the fdcpa law especially after sending the cease and desist letter. The 'receipt' proves that they have received your letter.

You can consult your attorney about this situation and also file your complaints at the FTC, BBB and the state attorney general office.

I hope necessary actions will be taken against them as consumer complaints are always on the rise.

Regards
Roxette

I just got off the phone with a lady by the name of "Ms. George", who is with the United Legal Corporation. I had set up a payment for 97.50 on September 30 through my bank account and I had noticed that it was not posted. I decided to call and see why. This lady which is an overstatement, was very rude right off the back. When I asked why I had to pay an extra $25 for a returned check she said I needed to be a little less rude. I was shocked because I have a large amount of patience and she was the one being rude. The check was returned because the account couldn't be found, not because there was insufficient funds. I feel that was not my fault because I gave them the right information. Either way she ended up hanging up on me. I was so upset I called back requesting her name and to speak to someone else. I was told by another lady that the complaint would be filed and that I would get a call about it. I'm glad this site was here so I could read more about there horrible business. What can I do?

Ashley, did you speak with the supervisor of United Legal Corp? Was the payment on 30th Sept set up written or verbal?

If you have a written proof of it along with your bank details, then I am sure you will put yourself in stronger place against them. You can also discuss it with your attorney.

Tsmur, do let us know how your attorney dealt with United Legal. Since they are doing illegal practices, maybe your attorney can offer some valuable tips to us.

Good Morning all. I too have been having problems with this company. I"ve talked to a "Ms. Lopez". She is very rude. She called my job and someone told her that I didn't work there. She then called me back and left a message on voicemail calling me a liar and telling me that she knows that was me that picked up the phone and said I did not work there. When I called back and explained that she was wrong she was still rude and I asked for a supervisor. The supervisor "Steve Harris" got on the phone and did absolutely nothing. He ended up transferring me back to her so we can "work it out". This company does not need to be in business. Their employees are rude and have no professionalism at all. I'm glad to know I'm not the only one, but at the same time I'm mad. I have never received anything in the mail about what I owe.

Hi Monique

I am sorry to know that you have been harassed by the representative of United Legal Corporation. Using harsh and abusive language on the phone is a violation of the federal law and needs to be dealt legally.

You should lodge your complaints at the FTC, BBB and the local attorney general office in your state against them. They will take necessary actions towards the complaints of the consumers.

Regards
Roxette

All such companies are scamming people. They use different names of operations and ultimately harass the people. We all need to be careful while dealing with them and exercise our consumer rights before we make a financial deal.

driddled1, send a cease and desist letter to the company's mailing address. The federal laws force the collection agencies to stop calling you after receiving this letter. Send your letter through certified mail with return receipt requested.

If the company calls you after receiving the letter, you might have to look towards legal counsel.
