Well here it is Friday and I am thinking about the weekend. Of course it is a low budget weekend because I get paid every other week and this is not an other week.
When I first came to Florida it was the dead of winter in New Jersey. I will never forget my first weekend here when we took the short drive to the beach. We parked the car in Clearwater Beach and walked toward the sand. The first thing I thought was, “where do you pay?” It was free. The whole beach was white as snow and seemingly endless with only a few people walking on it and a few sunbathers and it was free. There was a little restaurant called Frenchy’s with tables out on beach under a canopy where we got a couple drinks and grouper sandwiches. I shared my experience with my native co-workers and they would ask “Weren’t you cold?”. It was 74 degrees in January and they were asking this winter NJ surf fisherman if he was cold!
In Point Pleasant Beach, New Jersey where I used to go from my place in the neighboring town of Brielle, the summer folk who couldn’t buy season resident passes would have to pay 20.00 to park and 8.00 each to go on the beach. That’s over 50.00 for a family of four before you went on any rides or bought any food. It is even more today. 40.00 to park in one lot by Jenkinson’s I was told.
This brings me too my Friday Frog topic. What do you like to do on the weekend that’s cheap. I found Sand Key park where you can picnic or go on the beach or fish off the inlet wall for only the cost of the parking meter. We also like to visit the botanical garden, the local parks that abound with wildlife including gators. Yes they are everywhere. We also like to go to estate sales and yard sales and search for unusual vintage things. If I ever figure out how to do my blog I will show some of the cool stuff we find. In the spring you can get up close to the Yankees or Phillies at training and, yes it’s free!
What do you all like to do that is fun and does not cost a Disneyworld fortune? Please share you fun ideas with everyone. We all want cheap thrills!

In my neck of the woods, central Michigan, the leaves are starting to change, the pumpkins are (yes, already) being picked and there are corn mazes everywhere! Halloween is my favorite holiday, so I get sort of geeked up from now until the first of November. There are orchards to walk through and of course cider and donuts to eat. The weather has been especially nice, so we will probably grill out over the weekend (not too many more chances to do that where we won't have to shovel around the grill). Doesn't matter what we grill, it always tastes better cooked outside and eaten off of paper plates! (Less work too, because DH does the grilling!)
Although I haven't been to the beach in years and that sounds awfully good too!

Camping! although fees for that have gone up too.. it feels good to just sit in some trees and try not to think about anything else - especially cuz lately I have alot of things going wrong - gonna sit & stare at the squirrels for 2 days...

I so miss the fall and Pumpkin and all that. It is 90 degrees here. It is nice when it is 70 and I know my old home is zero. But I do miss wearing fall clothes and feeling that first chill in the air. Right now I would be on the beach in NJ fishing for stripers.

It a joke! Now everyone left and went to the food thread. Ya see what happens? I think I will do some wade fishing this weekend. My apt is right on upper Tampa Bay. I can wade out about one hundred yards at high tide. Maybe catch a redfish. Oh Blackend Red Fish Tacos. How does that sound. Ha!

Cheap fun huh? I don't think there's much cheap to do anymore! Camping for me is a big thrill... the smell of a campfire, the great outdoors and nothing around but critters! Ahhh but unfortunately looks like this weekend will be spent preparing for yet another storm brewing out there! I hate hurricane season!

We are still relative new to our area and with the weather getting cooler, we love to drive through the mountains. I took the top down on the car today and we will most likely drive through the mountains, stop in some small town to eat and drive home. We look for little junk shops, flea markets..whatever. Athough blackend red fish is making my mouth water..and I believe you started the food thing with your sandwich thread...

Don't go worrying your head off. It just a tropical storm. Not a big one. The first year I was here there were five. How far inland are you? Are you in New Orleans or up by Baton Rouge?
