It is a scenario that I have seen far too frequently. A guest who is seeking help posts a thread and gets a a few replies. Suddenly another guest, or possibly a member posing as a guest, makes a comment that is off topic and usually directed at someone. Next thing three more posts come out replying to the comment and the whole thread degenerates. This is exactly what the negative poster wants to occur. Now they have sabotaged the thread successfully. These comments should be brought to the attention of the moderators who will delete them. That is what moderating is. The guest who posted originally is now left out with nothing but a negative impression of the forum and with the same issue he came with. This is not professional. Do not fall for these traps. The same applies to that annoying troll. Ignore him and he will go away. He wants to stir things up. That is his sole purpose in life!

frogpatch, I totally agree with you, I just sent a pm to kashan and stated the same thing in a round about way and I feel that in the last few days someone is going in and attacking our strong members by stating they are incorrect on the advice they are giving. I did fall for it as I had to respond and state that kash was not wrong, so the new member did not think what was being said was incorrect. Anyway, I also saw some post/replies to Goudah and the same thing-it probably is the same person going in and doing this.

Can I make a suggestion? And thats all it is, is a suggestion, I will not be offended if its turned down. I run a few car club forums and we had the same problem random people posting attacking members etc. Most of the time they were robot spam. Im sure some on here are just robots as well. So what I did to stop that was set up the forum to only allow registered people to post. So in order to post they would have to login. Another perk to that is you know who is who and it would avoid alot of confusion. Case in point Guest #1 asks a question then another Guest chimes in and you dont know if its the same guest or not. Again just a suggestion. I will stop rambling now lol

Many guests are embarassed by there situations and prefer to remain anonymous even to the administration. Thanks for your suggestion, I will see what the others think!
One post was directed at a persons religious beliefs which was totally un called for. Personal attacks will not be tolerated even behind the scenes as PMs. You know who you are!

Totally understandable about wanting to remain anonymous I felt that way at first too but after reading through the topics I felt as though I was in a safe place were I wouldnt be judged.
I just cannot believe someone would attack someones religous beliefs, specially because that has nothing to with why we are all here.

Itis important that we remain relevant to the site. We have this pub to discuss things openly that are not relevant. The guest should be our focus. If we start focusing on each others differences the whole concept is moot!

Your right, I'm guilty as sin letting myself fall into these traps. I'll try my best to just ignore them from now on. It's hard for me because I'm more a head on kinda guy. I see a problem and I feel like I need to take care of it myself, as I do everything else. I'm not used to relying on other to get things done.

I'll just have to adapt.

JCEMT - being a head on kinda guy is NOT a bad thing! Smile

I've just learned with trolls, bots and the odd few that come just to stir up trouble, I try my best to ignore them. I used to respond to them, blast them, etc...but then I realized that's what they WANT. And it didn't do any good, because all they did was post, then sit back and watch us scream at them...but not reply any further. So I've decided to ignore them. Not worth raising my blood pressure!

Despite all of the 'bad people', on this forum, I'm sure they have problems, too. I'm trying to 'defend' these people, I'm just saying if they REALLY want help and advice, they should be honest (with who they are AND why they are here.)

I kind of agree with hevnly_chick on this one. I think requiring people to register would actually help boost membership. It would give them an incentive to post and remain active, instead of a single post and done. Which happens quite frequently, some Guest creates a topic and forum member #1 and forum member #2 post helpful comments then the thread dies. Sometimes it can be very confusing when three guests post in a row and all three posts have different advice/comments. Even when people post as a guest with a screen name what prevents the next guest that comes along from entering that same screen name and posting a completely different idea/advice/suggestion. If you require then to register at least then you will be able to see if they become a regular poster or if it was a one time deal. But, I can also see the point why people would want to remain anonymous, these types of issues can be very embarassing for some people.

Thanks Frog! There are and have been threads that go on way too long about the same thing.

I always try to ignor ignorant comments, that is what they want. I will not, however, tolerate attacking, nasty or rude comments. If we want the Community to grow, we have to look as if we are being professional, and not stoop to their level. We have the Pub for fun things or things not relating to debt.

If anyone has a problem with PMs, posts, etc., please notify a mod, if one isn't avaliable, PM Denny or Jason.

I,too, Fro have experienced hate PMs, nasty and accusing ones too. It just whos the ignorance of the poster.

I came here for help and support, and remain here to give back what was given to me...karen

Good comments from everyone here. I think the reason we didn't require people to register was because some people might feel overwhelmed and a little shy--and we don't want anyone to feel uncomfortable. This is why we started having guest posts being required to be approved.
My personal feeling is that after a guest has posted a few times, they might as well just register and get the full benefits, but that's me.
Maybe we could require guests to register after a certain number of posts??

Sounds good on paper KS, however that would require IP tracking. With people posting from different computers, static IP addresses, DHCP servers which force renewal of IP address, etc. it would be difficult at best.
