Default Wow!

Got the hospital bill for my son today. For a 45 minute ER visit it is 1,253.00 dollars. 35 dollars for supplies is included.

I will be going to the school Monday to present them this bill.

Also, strangely enough my son Brent told me he fell in the cafeteria and that his teacher would not let him go to the nurse. I've met his teacher and find that to be a bit strange but his knee is very swollen right now. i'm waiting for my sister in law to come take a look at him before I take him to the hospital.

WOW!!! That's crazy FYI! Definately make them pay.

How come they didn't let him go to the nurse? You'd think they would. Teachers are weird like that. I was in 3rd grade & had a TERRIBLE tummy ache. Nurse thought I was faking & wouldn't let me call my mother. By the end of the day I was doubled over in so much pain that a friend had to help me walk out to my mom's car. I was ashen white! Turns out that my tummy ache WAS real as my intestines had stopped working! If we had waited longer they would have gone septic. That was back in the 80's.

You'd think in todays "Sue Happy" society any bump or fall they'd send you to the nurse.

I'm having trouble with this too in this day and age....a child's welfare should take the lead when there is a complaint...as a freshman in HIgh school I faced the same thing till I passed out on the basketball court...they then rushed me to the hospital to find my appendex had burst!!

A girl at work-her daughter broke her arm during a basketball game in gym class (teacher was playing & bumped into her and knocked her down). My co-worker took the bill to the school & they paid it and gave her no problems.

But isn't it ridiculous that a short ER visit can possibly cost this much??? It's highway robbery! So unfair but what are u gonna do about it? My son sees a pediatric cardio yearly. The vist last 30 mins at the longest, the doc's part is maybe 10 mins! It's $2,500!!! By the time i pay it off each year it's time for another visit! But what ya gonna do???

Their insurance should cover it. I've spoken with a lawyer about questions I should ask them on how they are going to prevent these accidents and what I should do if they refused to pay this bill.

I don't want to sue them. I'm not that person looking to make the extra money on an accident. But I will sue them should they not pay this bill and don't take steps to prevent somehting like that from happening again.

FYI- I think you are on the right track with this one. You cannot let them slide by on this-or it will happen again.

My youngest son was asthsmatic and one day he need to go to the nurses office to get his inhaler,he wans't feling well. The teacher decided that he was just faking, and wouldn't let him go. When I found out-I blew up everywhere! I went to the admin at the school, the superintendent, everyone!!My doc even wrote a note.

I definately would make sure they paid the bill- the easy way or not!! Good Luck..KAren

If it comes to suing them you can sue for just enough to cover medical expenses, your lawyer, and the time you missed at work because of court. Does not have to be for large amounts. The whole reason your suing is to make a point and to prevent other children and mothers from going through what you and your son went through.

I agree with everyone. Due to the nature of the beast, the school should have copious amounts of liability insurance to cover them in matters like these.
And in the case of your son not being able to see the nurse, that is what I would raise hell over. Better safe than sorry is my motto!

Hey Cajun! I had mine out in March-copy cat!

My best friend had a baby & the insurance was going to deny the whole birth/baby because the hospital mis-spelled her husband's name...the cost for the birth & the baby? $60,000!

Insurance & costs are insane.

FYI...has the school or anyone contacted you since this happened??
