I am now unemployed. I decided that the long commute plus the rising cost in fuel was too much of a strain. It was. 400 dollars a month just to go to work. It was silly. While I made a pretty good living it wasn't good enough for me to buy that much gas or sit in traffic a long with a 45 minute drive. My commute changed when we moved at the first of March. It went from 10 minutes to much longer.
Anything under an hour might not sound like a long drive but I have some issues. I can't sit in a car that long. It's a phobia of some sort I guess. I get very anxious.
I've sent out plenty of resumes and I hope it won't be too long before I find employment again. I have at least 2 good leads and I'm going back for a second interview on Thursday.
So today I am going to relax so I can flip out and stress tomorrow. I'm going to wash my car and clean it out nicely. Today was supposed to have been my last day but my 3rd child fell Saturday while playing basketball with a friend and sprained his hip.
Things aren't so bad. YeT! hehe

Hi FYI, I know the feeling of that huge cost of fuel, between me and my husband we spend $700 in gas a month. I wish you good luck with your interviews I'm sure you will find a job soon. I hope your son feels better.

why would you quit your job before you find a new one - that's one thing i taught my kids - it's harder to find a job if you aren't employed

I just sent off for a current catalog for the local community college. I'm thinking about business administration and Spanish.
Also, for the guest post that hasn't posted yet. That is indeed good advice to give to your kids and in fact that is what my mom told me. My reasons other than what I posted above are my own. Needless to say I have the support of my husband and my family. The cost of travel outweighed the benefits.

You have to do what is best for you and your family and you are the only one who can determine that. If a long commute is too stressful for you you should not do it. Gas prices are getting outrageous. Relax and enjoy your time off and good luck with the job hunting. I hope you find the perfect job.

The way that gas is and will continue to be, you have to do what you can afford. That extra money a month that you will save, can go for something else.
You will be in my prayers for things to settle down!! I hope your son is doing better also--when it rains it pours..Karen

FYI - it'll all work out, you'll see! Keep your chin up, relax and enjoy the fact that you no longer have the stress of driving that far every day, and just keep sending out those resumes. It'll happen!

Sorry to hear that you're on the bricks, FYI. With any luck, you'll find something better, closer.
Meanwhile, enjoy yourself for a few days. Nothing wrong with that at all. And give yourself a pat on the back while you're at it. You've done something that no one else could ever do. You've made me sad to see a collector out of work.
Best -
Wulf
