gc services keeps calling. 6 times today. gc services is in violation of the FAIR DEBT COLLECTION PRACTICES ACT! Section 806 titled "HARASSMENT OR ABUSE[b]" THE USE OF OBSCENE OR PROFANE LANGUAGE OR LANGUAGE THE NATURAL CONSEQUENCE OF WHICH IS TO ABUSE THE HEARER OR READER.
--AND--
CAUSING A TELEPHONE TO RING OR ENGAGING ANY PERSON IN TELEPHONE CONVERSATION REPEATEDLY OR CONTINUOUSLY WITH INTENT TO ANNOY, ABUSE, OR HARASS ANY PERSON AT THE CALLED NUMBER.
GC Services is in direct violation of both of these. I am contacting the BBB and any other agency that may help.
Josh is the employee that I talked to and he is an IDIOT.

I used to work there, crappy place I hated it but they followed all the rules and laws, no leaving messages cause it's a violation to tell someone that someone has a debt unless you know it's them, they followed the rules, cept the drug thing, they didn't even entrance screen.

Ok, so, I see lots of people with questions about this agency. Let me share what I know about this place.
They are a legit business. They are also required by law to follow the FDCPA (Fair Debt Collections Practices Act) which is why they do not answer the question of "why are you calling my house?" BY law, they are not allowed to discuss the business with you unless you are the debtor and have been verified by your social security number or birthdate. It does no good to continue to ask them. They will tell you it is a personal business matter (it is if you think about it) and if you ask where they are calling from, they HAVE to tell you, however, if you ask them what GC Services is, they will tell you it is a diverse financial institution. Which it is. They are not lying to you in the least. They are telling you what they can by law.
Cussing them out is not going to get you anywhere. Neither is hanging up or ignoring them. They are just doing their job.. in some cases, there job is to actually help get student loans out of default by offering programs for such. However, if you choose to be a pain to them, they will continue to call and wait till your account is taken out of their office and put with another collection agency... where your acct will have another 18% charges and fees tacked onto it.
So, you see.. it really is more to your benefit to actually have patience with them and talk to them than it is to their benefit. Yes, you will get rude ones.. however, they are NOT customer service, if you are rude to them, they can (within the law) be rude right back to you. Something to think about there eh?

As an afterthought to my previous post...
Consider this if you will.
You answer the phone and on the other end is an agressive collector. How many calls have they already made before they called you? How many times have they been cussed out, called names or treated abusively before they dialed your number? How many times have you, in the past, hung up on them or been rude to them?
All these things need to be considered, because if you have never worked the field, trust and believe, these people get paid crap to call debtors and get verbally abused for 8 hours every day. Yes, they get in bad moods. They get headaches, their shoulders and necks are tense and hurting, and to top it all off, they have their management teams breathing down their necks to bring in more money. So... yes, they can have bad days before they get to your number. Guarantee you this... if you are polite and listen to them, talk with them and try to work with them.. they will calm down and change their tune.
A decent person on the call makes a collectors day.

As for calling you and asking for someone else... chances are, they have researched and come up with your name as a possible neighbor or relative of the debtor and they are trying to see if you can help them establish communication with the debtor. Again, yelling at them and cussing them is not going to do you any good. If you do not wish to help, simply state you do not want to help and to remove your number.

It sounds like they are fishing for personal information. The calls come on my cell phone from 1-866-647-3068 and 1-877-290-8894. Usually there is no one, sometimes they say "hold for an important message," then nothing happens. I called them back and they answer "GC Services" and ask if I have a CapitolOne card -- I do not. And then she started asking, "what's your phone number." There are a few lawsuits listed against these folks. Does anyone know how to block a call from a mobile phone? What can be done to stop this?

Well...i worked for Gc Services and i can say i actually liked it, there was a lot of drama between co-workers, but in training at gc you ARE taught ALLL about FDCPA and FCRA...its all on the employee whether they follow the right guidelines or not. The phone calls are pulled and monitored weekly to see if they follow the guidlines, if u dont and cant correct it, ur fired..employees come and go there quickly..And for u all who complain for how many times they call and leave no message...collectors can call 15 times a day between 8 am and 9pm until they speak to the debt ower, correctly id them, and obtain some information other then them hanging up, otherwise you may recieve another call..it is an automated dialer that gives us or makes the calls. Some of the companies under gc ask by law for you not to leave a msg due to privacy and not knowing if its a work phone or phone shared by others, etc. Some require you to be so many months late before thay leave messages. There are tons of papers on every cubicle regarding the state laws for every state. Collectors do a thing called "skip tracing" which is where they do all kinds of searches to find numbers linking to their customers..if someone calls you and you dont owe anything, then tell them they have the wrong number! After 3 times they have to remove the number off, that again would be another employee mistake if u tell them and still recieve calls. i owe a lot of debts myself, and i guess working in collections gives you a better understanding of what guidlines collectors have to follow, its not gc..its the employees. Quit whining and pay up...otherwise they wouldnt be calling u!!

i have read a lot of different things on this thread and it all says the same thing.this is a bottomfeeder CA.if it was legit, there wouldn't be trolls on it.there probably is a lot of turnover because people are getting wise to you and other CA'S like you,and the employees can't make there quotas.i noticed the trolls are out in force today.

They finally did it! This company threatened on my answering machine, to "send a package" to my place of work. I will be and working with the original creditor, who continues to take my payments, and adjust my balance downward.
I owe the debt, but give me a break! My husband was diagnosed with Stage III multiple myeloma-terminal, in May. Every other creditor has worked with us to soften the already tremendous blow to our family, except American Express and GC Services.
Please be sure to send cease and desist letters, to avoid future contact with this company. Send it certified and registered.

I was placed on their rehabilitation program and it turns out that it's just B.S. And on top of that the loan company is calling me every other day to get some payment plan on file... I was fooled by G.C. services and they got Approximately, $900 of my hard earned money.
I will be contacting my attorney for guidance!

They have been fighting my claim for a year. I have had them send my mail to the wrong adress and still said, "OH well, sorry your still at fault." I have supplied them with all the necessary documents to prove my innocence and still they manage to deny my disability. MY doctor was shocked when I showed him the information, and could not believe that they can get away with this type of harrassment. They told me that they would place me in a "hardship" program, and it was a program to consolidate my loans. I can't believe that they are doing this to me. They hired a woman named Precious Johnson in their Columbus, Ohio office and she was stealing socials from clients from another collection office, has bad credit and a bad atttitude. Be careful of giving her your social security number.
