Georgia Reconsidering Ban On Payday Loans

Message Author
PostPosted: Sun Mar 18, 2007 2:10 pm

Next week, the Georgia Assembly will consider lifting their ban on payday loans. They are being courted by Executives from lenders who have made millions in high interest loans. According to the Atlanta Journal Constitution, Advance America had 19.9 million in profits in 2003.

They are considering House Bill 163, which is strongly supported by the payday lenders. Whether you live in Georgia or not, it is important to let them know how dealing with these leeches has affected your life.

Everybody who is anybody in georgia needs to flood their congressman or woman with faxes and mail. They need to know the other side of these useless destructive loans. Get as many people as you can to send this because a lightbulb may go off showing that voters are concerned.

Guest,
Got no idea what you are saying or even if it bears any distinct point in this topic.

I wish that they would ban them in Louisiana. But since Georgia is repealing their ban, I wonder if other states will soon follow because this industry makes so much money a year. I wish that there was more that could be done than just sending letters and contacting your congress person.

Just wanted to update this string and let folks know that the proposed changes to Ga's strong anti-payday lending bill did not pass.

I would not venture so far as to call the measure defeated...it deadlocked 84-84, which is just 7 votes shy of passing.
