Well, thanks to Dana's help, I found out that the collection inquiry I saw two days ago on my credit report is from the famous Mr. Gerald E. Moore Attorney at collections. Oppps I meant law. :P Would the members like to give their opinions on how I should handle this gentleman and remember, he is not licensed to do business in my state. Bring in on members!

Linnie, have you read the topic on Gerald E Moore in this forum. Here is the link. Check it out and know their business activities.

I guess Gerald has done the reporting in your file inaccurately. Dispute the item and request for verification. They must have the legitimate details or the item needs to be removed from your file. Remember, collection entries hurt the credit scores severely. Do not allow the CA to keep inaccurate negative item in your file for long.

Write a letter to the credit bureau and send a copy of it to the collection agency also. Get the item removed if it's in your file giving out incorrect information.

Gretchin, does he have a right to look at my credit report. If not due to the fact that he is not even licensed in my state. I want to write a letter to all three credit bureas. Just to clarify, he is listed a inquiry. He pulled a copy of my credit report for colletion purposes. He has no entry but that, but he did it twice in two weeks

I just want to be sure, if he is not a licensed attorney in my state, can he still request my report for collection purposes, just want to make sure I know what I am doing

forgot to add, I don't know if he is collecting on one of my accounts, everything is past the sol except one and it would be my guess thats the one he is after. It is a credit card bill for $2000.00 back when I had gotten ill.

The question about licensing comes when the CA is making collections for some of your past debt accounts. All collection agencies can view your credit report, but they cannot enter anything without genuine reasons.

Check if the CA has put inquiries in your file. It must be removed if there is no genuine purpose for this inquiry.

they have not put any negative entry on my report. (sort of) It was a collection inquiry. it's in this section of my report:

Requests viewed by others
We make your credit history available to your current and prosepctive creditors and employers as allowed by law. This section below lists all who have requested in the recent past to review your credit history as a result of actions involving ??? as the completion of a credit application or the transfer of an account to a collection agency. Creditors my view these requests when evaluating your creditworthiness

Comments:
Collection purpose. This inquiry is scheduled to continue on record until June 2008.

He made two requests to view my report so it's on there twice

linnie, Gerald has in fact hit your credit file with an inquiry. It is putting a negative impact in front of your future lenders. It should stay only if it has a legitimate purpose. Call them and verify this matter. (Why will they put an inquiry if they are not collecting for any company???)

update, I also found an attorney who is quite familiar with Mr Moore. So, if Mr. Moore can not produce the proper validation of his inquiry, I am requesting the inquiry be removed from my credit report and if Mr Moore is not happy with that, he can speak with my new attorney

Thanks Gretchen, I had no idea that just an inquiry on your report could hurt you.

Linnie, inquiries from collection agencies are very bad. You can't imagine how derogatory it is to have it in your credit file. If you take my suggestion, never allow your accounts reach the CAs. The account in delinquent state is already reported negatively in the credit copy and is affecting the scores. Guess, a collection entry over it will mess up the scores. The time taken to repair the negative scar is a long and time consuming process

ok, I understand now. I pulled my very first credit report last year. I suppose I was scared up till then and I even had heart palpitations while I was reading it but it wasn't that bad.

I was diagnosed with a life threatening illness a few years ago and fell behind in everything. My boyfriend moved out two weeks prior to my surgery - RAT. I offically hit rock bottom. This is why I was sooo scared to read my report. I knew it would offically suck! So this is clean up from that era of my life. I am working hard on it. I am paying the accounts off that I can. It will just take time, I know that.

Gretchen, tell me this, I have two small accounts that have been closed "purchased by another lender". They are past the SOL however, I don't know who they were sold too. Never got anything in the mail or anything. How can you inquiry about that or should I even bother since it is past the SOL and paying them at this point will make little difference on my report.

linnie, inquire from the credit company whom they sold the account to. They may help you with this info because they are the ones who sold it out. But, most of the times, they don't want to pull out records buried inside.

The new creditor will appear in your credit file after they have reported with the bureaus. Sometimes, they hit quick enough, sometimes, it is lined up in a 'Q'. If they get in contact with you and have your accounts, they will enter the item in your file. From that point, you will have to handle the matter as required. Be aware of the statutes while talking with the company asking for a payment.

Boyfriend!! He was even painful than a collector, I guess.. It's good that you have come out of this pain before getting deeply in it. sucks!! How is your health now, Linnie

Thanks Gretchen for the info. I will pursue what you have told me to look for.

p.s. The boyfriend was a jerk, I think the word Chemo scared him away. Oh well, wasn't worth having in the first place I guess Health is Good! I am glad to have a second chance at life. Now, I want to make it better than the first time around
