Can I be sued by a collection agency?
I contacted my creditor and I was told to make my payments at one thier stores where I always do. the account was a little behind but I got it current. About a week ago I got a letter from a collection company telling me that my account was turned over to them. The account is not behind. I just made a paymeny on it the other day it is current. I called someone at my creditors and they told me the account has been closed but they are still sending me statment and I am still making payments at the store.

Hopefully you have kept your receipts as proof of your payments. Did you talk to the company you are making payments to about the collection agency? Send the collection agency a debt validation letter and send them copy of your receipts. If you have been making payments and have proof if they want to sue you then you go to court with proof of your payments on this debt to the original creditor and you should be fine.

They have turned my account over to a collection agency - URS - anybody know anything about them - they called me today - I want them not to call me at home - so I guess they got that number from my old bill.

If you had a past due balance for more than 90 days and did not bring it current before it was sent off they they put it in the process to be charged off.
You will be able to find out if your account is still in good standing in two easy ways. One, call the credit card company or two try and buy something.
You are still recieving statements because it is still an intrest bearing account, at least until it charges off.
Basically your creditor has called the balance due in full and want you to pay it as your contract that you signed said you would do should it default.
