I don't have HORRIBLE credit but I got into some trouble when I was younger and had some late payments. As of late I've begun repairing my credit. I got my credit score and signed up for the Experian triple advantage monitoring plan, and I started disputing some things that I felt weren't accurate. Also, I've aplied for a credit card to bring my score up. I don't owe anyone money, no creditors are after me or anything like that. I got a loan for a matress through wells Fargo financial and am making sure all my payments are on time as well so that should help.

My question is this. I am getting engaged soon and am in the process of looking for a ring. I was planning on paying cash for some of it and financing the rest. What is the likelihood of me being able to get financing with a 609 credit score? The diamond I am looking at is around $3000. I was going to pay $1,000 cash and finance $2,000. The place I am looking at buying has financing for up to 48 months. Do you think I could get it?

Your credit scores are decent. Payment history is also good enough. You will get good deals with that score.

However raising your score from 600 to 720 could drop the interest rate from 18% to 9.6%

This brings up something I have been wondering lately. What is the easiest and cheapest way to get a credit check fairly quickly?

Will my bank run a credit check for me, or does this differ by bank? Sorry if that's a dumb question, but this is the only place for me to ask these types of things...=)

You could go to www.annualcreditreport.com to get copies of the free reports once a year.
