Where's a good place to get a quick loan with bad credit? (Without resorting to PDLs :[ )

I am not an advocate of getting a loan to pay off debts. I'm sure that there are legitimate companies that loan to people with bad credit, but if you could find one, your interest rate would be ridiculous, making payments tough. There are many, many loan scams out there..There are threads full on this site full of people who have been ripped off this way. Make sure that if you do find a lender, that they are registered with the BBB. Also, you NEVER have to pay money up-front for a loan, if they tell you that you do, it is a scam!
One thing you could try is Prosper..I know they are more flexible than most.

Hi fins:
Thanks for your help :] I'll be sure to check with the BBB on lenders!
You are right--I've been lurking for a while and have seen MANY of the posts by people that have gotten ripped off on here, but I'm having trouble finding posts where people have been satisfied with the companies...! I was just wondering if such a lender existed Smile (besides prosper, that is)

Hopefully you have some luck! When you say bad credit, what do you mean? I know some credit unions are a little flexible.

i tried to go through Prosper.com, at one time. They said I had to " join a group first, because my credit score was very low." Ok.....I joined a group. THEN they said they need a 'fee' for $150.00 from me..." this din't guarantee a loan from them, however." I don't know anyone else who tried through Prosper.com. I asked them to send me something in writing, concerning the 'fee'. Prosper 'said' they only do "contracts via e-mail." I never sent them money and never heard from them again. That's MY experience with them.

Good for you for not paying them! that's horrible, you need money, if you had money why would they think that such a high fee would be constructive?? Credit unions are something I didn't think of fins, good suggestion and good luck to you sd!

sdcharges: Woah! That sounds pretty... sucky D:

A credit union! :O
That sounds like a good idea.
Don't they have some requirements for joining though?
Like: must work at/live at/something and be related to someone currently in the union?!
Er... I think it's something like that.

There IS a Credit Union, in the area ,where I live. However............they are 'affliated' with a university in town. And.....I'm not!! LOL That's ok..........if I DID get a loan, it would just be another debt to pay back..ya know??

I used to work for a credit union service center. The one I worked for required that you either work for one of the employers on their charter OR a close relative of someone who is already a member. There are some credit unions that allow you to join if you either work/live/go to school/or worship in that county. I do know that Credit Unions offer lower interest rates on their loans than regular banks. Also, they dont charge loan fees. Like the Credit Union I worked for, they had NO settlement charges whatsoever for Home Equity Loans. As for personal loans, if the person had bad credit they would work with you but not all bad credit applicants got loans. It just depended on how bad your credit was. Take me for example, I had just filed bankruptcy and applied for a car loan with the credit union because my car had just died and had no transportation to/from work. The credit committee had to make a decision whether or not to give me the loan because my credit was horrible! They eventually let me have the loan because they needed me to come to work and even with my bad credit, my interest rate was only 7%! That was the highest interest rate they charged for poor credit. Hey I was not going to complain! 7% is the best rate I ever had plus I got the car I needed. So needless to say, Credit Unions are a good alternative. Just dont go with PDL's please!

Penfed.org and Patelco.org are two credit unions anyone can join. You just join one of their associated clubs and then join the credit union.Penfed is very good with granting credit so they are in my cross hairs for next year.

I hope those cross hairs are aiming to fire chocolate or flowers. Cuz if you put people you like in your cross hairs, I do NOT want to get on your bad side. Smile

I would definitely suggest going to visit a credit union
They want new members, and I have found them to be very open to working with me
I have gotten some credit built through loans from my credit union
