I am familiar with some of the unethical behaviors of some collection agencies and have had to tell debt collectors to stop calling my company to prevent them from disturbing my business and from harrassing employees--when I inform the unethical collector that if they call again I will call the Attorney General's office, they stop. More recently AI was calling my home to collect a debt from my daughter. At first, we thought they were a telemarketing company and just ignored the calls. When it became clear it was a debt collector we advised our daughter, as well as our employees mentioned previously: to call the debt collector and make arrangements. In other words, just pay your debt. Stop avoiding your responsibilities and pay up. It is amazing how nice the collectors are when you make a sincere effort to make payments on money you borrowed. I know my daughter and my employees started feeling better about themselves. If it is a collection call in error, face it head on and just get it squared away. It's a shame that people are shirking their responsibilities and causing more drain on our economy. If you can't afford it, don't put it on credit--in other words, work hard and grow up. | |
