ChexSystems Red Flag.... But nothing on the report!

I know I mentioned this somewhere else, probably in my PDL thread when I was opening a new account...

I was told I was flagged. There was something on my report. An account opened in Ohio (or something near there) under my SSN. The name was an odd one and the date reported was in Feb 2006. The name looked like a strange misspelling of someone I had dated briefly and the date was a couple of months or so after I stopped seeing them.

I went online and ordered a report. I just got it.

First of all they spelled my name wrong. I don't know what people's problems are. I did it online... how could they get it wrong? I can see how you might mistake an I for a J when handwritten but online?

Secondly, there was nothing on it! Only one thing in "inquiries initiated by consumer action"... So don't know what is up with that. Is it because of my misspelling? Going to call them later.... See what is up.

Anyone else had any thing strange on their Chex Systems report?

yes chexsystems is well known for inaccuracies. If you have a problem with them you will need to file a dispute and make them fix it ..for information on this and sample letters ..go to

Thank you MCA! I was just reading your posts about what you do. I was lucky and my bank let open my account. What I was confused about is why would they tell them something was on my account and then when I check on it there is nothing? Did they fix it after they spoke with my bank? I just don't understand what happened.

But I guess that makes sense if chexsystems has their heads up their you know whats.... So if there is now nothing on it how can I dispute it?

chexsystems turned my checks down a couple of times and when i called on one occasion it was because i had written, i guess too many checks in one day. the next time they did not have any reason and the checks went through. now i do remember i was out of town and wrote a check and it was turned down but chexsystems cleared that also. now, i very seldom write checks, i just use my debit card. i didn't even order any checks from my bank. if i pay a bill over the phone i just give them the number.

My new bank is really cool. I didn't order checks either, mostly because I'm not good at keeping track of them and they take forever to go through and by that time, I've done forgotten and I end up overdrawn (but I've always had bounce protection so they went through and I got a bank fee). But they gave me a little ledger that holds my bank card so its like a checkbook without the checks. In fact I've started keeping my license in there too, and I've neglected the fact of whereever my wallet went to...

pokogeo ...yes you can dispute it but that is not a guarantee that they will remove you, but it never hurts to try. But most importantly, get the report and see what it says.
