What can I do if someone steal my debit card?

I had a debit card through a bank and my roommate stole my card and took out the money that was deposited that day after I cashed my check from Social Security without me knowing about it. What can I do, because now I can't get a checking or savings account and I don't feel that this is my fault.

Contact your bank and explain to them what happened. How is it that you have a debit card and no savings or checking account associated with it? Then I would get a new roommate.

Is this a re-loadable debit card? You would have to dispute it with the company and they may tell you that you will have to press charges against your roommate if you want the issue resolved. I'm sorry to hear that your roommate took advantage of you like this.

i had this similar problem a few years back...it was a visa debit card, i actually got a call from visa fraud saying someone was charging in another state...they must monitor unusual charges....anyhow, i just called the bank and gave them the information of the person who stole the card...i was however resposible for $250.00 of my ex boyfriends $500.00 spree. depending on how much was stolen, and if this person is capable of repaying you, i might consider criminal charges...

Pressing charges might be the only way you could get repaid. You would have to file a police report to do that.

If you can't get a bank because your old bank put you on chexsystems, check out this link
http://www.debtconsolidationcare.com/settlement/chexsystem-banks.html

In the debt consolidation forum I posted a list for all 50 states of banks that either still will give you an account, or don't use chexsystems at all.
