Here is my story. Last week I got an email stating that a new account was posted on my credit report. So, I went to check it and it was a company called Georgia Power. I called to inquire about the account and I didnt have any info to give them so I asked if they used social security numbers. I gave my number to the representative. The account came up stating that I had some lights turned on at this location. Here is the problem: I stay in New Orleans, LA and the lights were turned on in Columbus, GA. Now I was pissed. I could only think of one person using my SSN. It is my own father. So, what I did was ask the company for a fraud investigation packet and get them to send it to me so I can fill it out. One of the requirements was that I get a police report. Since the crime happened in GA, I had to file a police report over the phone. I have to mail in a $2 money order to the GAPD to get them to mail the police report to me since I am out of state. I have an aunt that stays in Columbus which is also my father's sister. I spoke to her husband and he told me that he remembers seeing my father move into the place. At this current time, my father doesnt reside at the location anymore. So, now I am just waiting to fill out everything. It is a real shame that your own blood would stab you in the back like that. I am just worried that he hasnt used my SSN for anything else. I am going to be placing a fraud alert with all 3 credit bureaus for the maximum 7 years.

IT IS TERRIBLE THAT THIS MAN IS USING YOUR SOCIAL SECURITY FRIEND.
I DO NOT THINK HE IS A GOOD FATHER FOR YOUR SISTER.
I PRAY FOR YOU AND YOUR FAMILY BE FREE OF THIS MAN.
AMEN

Sounds like your Dad may have a few problems, Have you tried to contact him. I would hope my son doesn't turn out like you. You talk about blood doing this to you. You better think what you are doing to him, call him son, be a man, not a wimp and do the right thing.
My son ever did that to me I would wipe his ass, I think thats what you need, or great son......

You are too funny. A man takes responsibility for his actions-children do not. If OP's father were a man, he would have either:
had his son open an account for him;
informed the son immediately following the opening of the account;
paid the bill;
or,
NEVER HAVE COMMITTED THE CRIME IN THE FIRST PLACE.
OP's father broke the code of family conduct, not the other way around...

James, you where wise to put a fraud alert on your credit reports asap. Also, I would contact the city hall where your father turned on the lights just to let them know what happened and to get their imput. Maybe, but some chance, it could of been someone else who is attatched or takes care of that residence in some way and not your Father.

My uncle distinctly remembers him moving into the address I said it was stated. I knew it was him. This isnt the first time he has used my identity. First it was just using the name. By just putting the name and not Sr. Since he dont have a stable address it comes to me.
And to merit1311, a real father would never do this to his son. And so what if I am taking legal action. He obviously wasnt thinking of me when he was using my SSN

Even if he is your father it doesn't matter. You need to take care of yourself. I am sorry that this happened to you. My sister did something similiar to my parents it ended up costing them $1,000's of dollars.

I'm sorry. It's awful that we have to worry about STRANGERS doing this to us, let alone our family. I hope you get it all straightened out.
