I been receiving emails all week from Fifth Third bank asking to update personal info. At first, I was just deleting them, but today I opened one up and it was asking for alot of personal info. I don't even bank with Fifth Third. I know there are alot of bogus emails going around from Chase, but this is the first I've seen of Fifth Third.

I get those kinds of email frequently - from banks, ebay, paypal, the list goes on. I even get them at work. I just ignore them. It is called phishing. Most banks have information about this on their websites.

This stuff scares me to death..I get them from Chase on my yahoo account pretty frequently...I never have had any account with Chase, so there's never been any problem there, but how easy it would be to get screwed if you did have an account.

You're right, finsfan. You wouldn't think twice about sending the info and e-mailing it back. I decided any info I give to my bank from now on is going to be with me calling my local bank directly, no more e-mail, and if they call, I'll tell them I'll call them back, just to make sure it's really them.

My local bank just started new identity theft stuff. They have to be able to identify your computer or they wont let you on to online banking. I think its a good thing. KYSIDE38

The best thing, if you are worried, is to not reply to the info.

When I get those, I take a few minutes to go to the company's site and find the address to forward the email for their review. I tend the find most are "abuse@....". The companies will thank you for bringing it to their attention. And just think, you can help someone you will never know, but would be very grateful for your couple minutes.

That's a good idea, JediJeff.

Kyside, that's great that your bank has that. Hopefully, all banks will follow suit.
