Have you tried contacting any local charity organizations/churches, ie: Salvation Army? Also try contacting your local human service dept. (welfare office) they should have what is called a retention program, even though you may not qualify for medicaid or food stamps there is a program for those with a higher income to receive assistance with utility shut offs and evictions/foreclosures. You should contact them ad inquire about such programs and have copies of any eviction notices or shut off notices.

Does Illinois have Section 8?

I think all states have Sec. 8. There is a huge wait list for that program though. Each state only releases a certain amount each year and those who are already on the wait list in each county get them. BUT, if you are a family with children that is considered an emergency and you go to the top of the list.

i just need help to get caught up...i don't think i would qualify for steady section 8...although one just never knows...it's an avenue i'm going to look into. i'm prone to thinking that with my income no one will help.

I can tell you from a personal story that the Salvation Army kept me and my mom from living on the street. I was amazed at their help. I never pass a red bucket without putting in some money.

Also candice - any chance your church might be able to assist you? Mine has a benevolence fund to help out attenders with just a story like yours.

although i am catholic and a strong believer...can't say i'm much of a churchgoer...perhaps it's not a bad idea though at this point in my life....i certainly am going to try the salvation army today. i wonder if the church would help if i've never attened.

If it helps any, I'll donate you my accrued points.
Also, don't think that pdl's come first. No matter what any collector might threaten your with, you can put your pdl's on the back burner until your basic needs of food and shelter are met. I've seen pdl's in default for over a year and nobody ever goes to jail or gets garnished. Those collectors are so full of prunes.

One can always ask.

Take it from a former Catholic - I got disheartened with the church. If you are in the Will County/Dupage county area, you can always attend mine. It was thru mine that I helped cover my mortgage one month.

Candace,
I am so sorry to hear of your trouble. Have you gotten an eviction notice, and if so, how many days were on it, ie, 30-day, three-day, etc. Depending on your state law, you might be able to possibly file a continuance. I would definately call Legal Aid or another low-cost attorney to get advice at this point as to what your rights are.
But Ari is absolutely right. Put those PDL's on the BACK BURNER right now. Your priority is to pay that back rent!

Crying? Are you crying? There's no crying..... There's no crying in debt consolidation!

Very Happy

Candice! They make a 50% commission on defaulted payday loans! They'll say anything to beat you into submission and what they say is more often than not a violation of the fdcpa. Don't be afraid of those windbags. Your basic needs come first, no question about it and once again they are more full of prunes than used car salesmen! Relax!
