In one of the other forums they talked about a company called Prosper. It is an online lending and borrowing site. Where can I found more info about this site. It sound like a good way to invest capital but the risk of lending money was not explained in great detail.
Thanks

hey Kash, have you had any personal experience with prosper? How are they like? From the site address I can only find that they offer loans. But I guess this site offers great advices to people to stay out of shady loan businesses. Would you recommend prosper??

And whoknows, why don't you google the name yourself and see the results? Tx

Gilbert, I have not had any personal experience with Prosper, but know many who have. All agree they are good honest people.

I tried to get a loan from them, sometime back. I joined one of the 'groups' that the site recommended. I was THEN e-mailed a 'confirmation' e-mail. THEN I was asked to send $125.00 for a " possible loan barrower". As soon as I was asked that, I cancelled my application. If there is a 'lender' who is asking money to GET a loan, that's illegal. I e-mailed the 'MOD' of the site, about this issue. I received no response, up to this point.

Sd, I have nvere heard of that at all. All I have heard is great things about Prosper. That is interesting. Prosper is very legal and has been helping people for a very long time. It is not a loan company. It is a group of private people willing to lend money based on certain criteria.

Maybe Prosper has worked for other people. I was asked to send the 'fee' through MoneyGram. I never did. Obviously..I had a 'negative' experience with them.

I bet that was a scammer working through the site - I've gone through prosper too and was never asked to pay anything upfront.

I agree that it must have been a spammer because I have heard nothing but good things about prosper and have considered using it myself.

MMMmm......maybe it WAS a scammer. I've known a few people, who have applied for, and recevied loans through Prosper. That's why I thought it was a bit strange when I was asked to pay a 'fee'. But, as I said, that was my only time I applied with Prosper.

I have 2 current loans with Prosper, and have never had a problem.

All I can say about "fees" is that I once heard that if you fell into the lowest/poorest credit score bracket that was allowable to borrow on Prosper, you had to pay a small up-front fee because you were a high risk to it's community of lenders.

That comment was rude and uncalled for. Whoknows had a legitimate question......

I just signed up with Prosper a couple of days ago...

To be honest, I initially checked them out because I had heard that there is a way to check your credit score/report yourself without paying for a view beyond your "one annual freebie" - AND without showing an inquiry on your credit report...

When I got to the site and started poking around, I was pretty impressed with their site and system.
Their reputation seems good, and their "fine print" was not scary or evil-sounding...
...And the whole idea of cutting "banks" out of the equation, and dealing directly with other folks, REALLY appeals to me...

I have found no fees associated with anything that I have done on the site, thus far.
( I DID begin a loan request, but have not posted it for consideration, yet...)

I have visited the forums and groups, and did the "trick" of viewing my current Equifax report while I was there....

( NOTE: Equifax is reporting a MORTGAGE APPLICATION on there THAT I DID NOT MAKE!
I am figuring that this is an "error" which I must get corrected - but the thought of SOMEONE ELSE trying to borrow against my property IS a new brain-cramp...
.....Point of this note being: CHECK YOUR CREDIT REPORTS, Boys and Girls!! )

I had the opportunity to call Prosper support with a question.
(Yes, they have a toll-free phone number, right on the site!)
I was IMMEDIATELY connected with a real, live, human being.
The human being actually ANSWERED my question.
Nicely.

I have already recommended to a couple of friends that they should at least check out the site, as I could see how it might be useful to them....

(Of course, as with anything, always gather all of the information you possibly can then make your own decisions before committing to ANYTHING...)

I'll update you when I've had more experience with them, if anyone is interested...

Well, maybe I'll look into them, again. Maybe there WAS a scammer on when I was applying.
