In oct 2005, I found out about an outstanding debt with MCI via calls from KCA financial. After many calls from KCA, I finally recieved something in writing that gave only an account number and amount. I submitted a letter of dispute and recieived nothing back. KCA says they mailed the details and that I should check with my mail man. They even refused to fax the info. I have since found out on my own that debt with MCI was from 2003 and 2004 and was written off by MCI in Dec 2004 -- all totaling about $200.
4 Questions:
1) What is the statue of limitations for a national / international company like MCI?
2) If I pay KCA now, how might it affect my credit?
The actual debt written off is about $50 less than KCA says I owe. I have a statement I can send to KCA showing this, will this be enough to resolve the descrepancy?
3) I told KCA over the phone that I would be willing to pay via money order or bank check - is this a mistake? (Of course, they told me they wouldn't accept it - that they needed credit card or check payment over the phone.)
4) In most conversations with them (even managers), they have been rude, threatening, demeaning, and actually told me that if I called again, they would have me arrested for harrassment -- even though all I am doing is trying to tell them that I would be willing to resolve this with a money order payment.
Again, this is money that most likely was due to MCI (I had not previously received collections calls or letters from MCI and MCI wrote the debt off in 2004.)What actions should I take?
