Yeah, he was. He played their head chef.

"Golden Towers" didn't run for very long- I think no more than 2 seasons. Honestly, probably only 1 season. Anyway, it centered around Blanche, Sophia, and Rose getting into the hotel resort business in the Miami Beach tourism hotspots. It featured Cheech Marin as one of the main supporting cast, and I can't remember the black american gentlemen's actor name, but he played the front deskman and general manager, and was the other main supporting character.
It was briefly re-run on tv a couple of years ago, but as far as that, I don't think it's ever been re-run before, and might not be for a long time. So good luck on catching it.
The show has also been known by a different title, as well, "The Golden Palace".

LOL!
Amarath, you are so correct. It was called "Golden Palace."
I think I was confusing "Golden Palace" with "Fawlty Towers." Hence the name merge.

I think "Golden Palace" was the name of the pilot episode, and after that, some of the episodes had a title card that read "Golden Towers" if I remember correctly.
Anyway, Dorothy had a couple of guest appearances, now that I remember.
And while I wouldn't call it a "spin-off", I would call "Empty Nest" a "cross-over show" as the characters lived next door to the Golden Girls. So that's why you'd sometimes see Betty White and Rue McClanahan and the rest on "Empty Nest", and on "Golden Girls", you'd sometimes see the "Empty Nest" cast ( remember the episode where Sophia dogsits the "Empty Nest" family dog and manages to mix him up with another dog? )
