In light of the recent tragedy of the horse race does anyone agree that this is a horrible sport. I have horses and I think that the way that they are treated are awful.
I went to one horse race two years ago and it was so hot the horse just fell over dead . A friend of ours works for the Horse track running the computers and he said this happens all of the time . I informed my husband that I WOULD NEVER go to another horse race again .
That is my personal opinion. Thanks for all of your opinions...just wondering where everyone stood on this subject.

I'm going to wait for the outcome of the investigation before I weigh in.

horse racing is a useless sport.you see these animals trained to run there hearts out and the owners and trainers reap the benefits.as for the investigation,i would cast an eye on the trainer.some of the things they inject into these magnificent animals is a joke.

I work with someone who races thoroughbreds, and his opinion was that the trainer and owner of this particular filly were idiots to run her in that race. She was not strong enough, and did not have the muscle required to run as hard as they were pushing her - therefore her ankles bore the brunt of the impact, and they broke under the strain.

SueBee- that's what my father-in-law said-she should have never been raced to begin with. He raises and races throughbreads, but doesn't make a killing out of it.
He is very particuliar with his horses and trainers and jockeys and makes sure his horses are in top notch health before he races them. He has pulled his horses out of races up until the last minute if he feels something isn't right.
There will always be people who are greedy and just want the money-despite the consequences, whether it is racing or some other sport...karen

Karen -
The person I work with is EXTREMELY careful about racing his horses, and only does so if he thinks they are fit to do so. He said this filly would never have had a chance to beat Big Brown anyway, because he was a male. He said racing a filly against a big male like that would ensure that it would be the filly's last race - every time. He cited several other fillies that have raced and been pushed too hard, and broken an ankle - it's almost always the same injury, because the fillies don't muscle out as quickly as the males do, and the owners almost always try to race them too soon or push them too hard. They ran that poor horse to death, and they should be ashamed of themselves.
