Mistake could lead to divorce

My husband bought an investment property that he is totally redoing. He sent me down to our local building and safety department to get a plumbing permit. I misunderstood what he told me and I actually pulled the plumbing permit by mistake. I didn't realize that the licensed plumber needed to pull it and now he is having a cow.

A friend of his who is an unlicensed plumber was going to do the work but then have another friend who is a licensed plumber pull the permit and go through the inspection for it. Now the licensed plumber called and told him he wasn't going to do it and now he says it is going to cost him $3,000.00 to have someone else come in and do it.

I told him I would go down to building & safety and explain that I made a mistake and void out the building permit that they issued and then when the licensed plumber comes in and pulls the permit it should be allright. What do I do...I am in deep doodoo now...what exactly do I tell building & safety tomorrow?

Sorry Ladybug- sounds like something I would do! I would go back down there in person, and maybe talk with a supervisor and see what they can do. Maybe they can offer some advice or fix it for you!

Good Luck..karen Very Happy

Good news everyone I was down there first thing at 7:50 a.m. and explained to the guy at the counter what I did and he told me "no big deal fill out this form and I will receive my money back in 2 to 3 weeks". The licensed plumber will be able to go in and take a permit with no problem as my permit will be voided. Thank god, he was so nice and understanding I just about cried.

I never got married, but I would never seek divorce over something like that. If we loved each other, my wife would matter more than money or any material thing. (well, except maybe my dog(s), lol )

"If you want something done right, you should do it yourself." If this was such a big deal, why did he send you -- or why didn't he make the instructions more clear? I don't even get why the city would give you a permit if a licensed plumber was supposed to go get it.

I can understand what he was trying to do. My dad does things like that -- does the work himself and then gets one of his licensed friends to come in and vouch for the work. But I know my dad wouldn't get my mom involved in it.

Either way, it's good that it worked out for you in the end.
