I receive ssdi $12,000.00 yearly. I normally don't have to file a tax return but read on the irs site and from social security that if people that receive payments such as mine that don't normally have to file a tax return should file one this year to receive part of that stimulus package. I talked to a lady at the IRS and she said to use the 1040A and to put that income on line 14. My question is this: How do I complete this...(I know dumb question) but I really don't know if this is going to work, if it does I probably have to file a paper return right?

Any answer to this question will help greatly.

Hit one of the Free File Alliance sites... I like statetaxfreedom.com [TurboTax]. You can prepare and e-file a federal [and state, if needed] for free in just a couple of hours. They'll automatically put the numbers on the correct lines, based on your answers to simple interview-style questions. You can do the entire thing right threr, including your signature. You also get a copy to print for your records, or you can print a paper return and mail it in.

Lady, the sites Unclewulf is talking about will walk you through everything. It will ask you questions and you answer them.. if you are not sure how to answer there is a help button and it is really easy...and if you have a problem or question that the help will not answer, you can save it until you get the answer to your question. When you go back, it will pick up where you left off.

thanks you guys unfortunatly my state wasn't listed on there, however, I did find a site citizentaxfree that accepted my return. Hopefully I will get the $300.00 stimulus package money I sure could use it.

Good Job Lady. I hope you get it too. And I will be willing to bet the filing was not that bad. I know if I can do it with one of those tax programs any one can. I have such a hard time with anything computer and it takes me forever to figure it out.

I use the site that unclewulf is talking about and I love it. I can file my federal and state tax with no problems.

I am glad you were able to file easily and hope you do get the money. This will make filing worth it.

Anyone that is expecting to get this refund advance must file a tax return. So for anyone out there that is expecting this refund - make sure you file your returns.

I have been told this is an advance on our tax refunds for 2008. Does anyone know if this is true. I was going to change my withholdings for this year because my refund was so large this year but this advance makes me a little nervous.

Yes it is...but if it results in an overpayment, you will not owe the difference at tax time.

That is good to know. Thanks for the info. Guess I will go ahead and change my withholdings. I could use the money now instead of in one lump sum later.

Well I believe having worked a number of years and paying taxes all the time entitles me to a refund it is not my fault that I have a chronic illness that has no cure I believe I deserve this just like healthy people. I wish that I could work since I am only 42 and have to live off a $1000.00 from social security.

Do not appreciate your comments amny since you don't know the whole story.

Amny, if you wanna take cheap shots at me, go ahead. But get off Ladybug. That's about the fastest way there is on this site to get your ass handed to you.

I filed taxes, and DID get a refund. Din't have to owe Federal Tax..but, DID owe a little in State Tax. I'm a single mom.As I'm hearing, on the news, only those who file taxes, for 2007, are eligible for this 'rebate'. Did I understand that correctly? (Someone please 'enlighten' me). However....I know a few people that recieve income that is NOT taxable (which, in my opionion, shouldn't make a difference about whether or not they get a 'rebate'.) And to comment on a few of this posts.......EVERYONE has issues,..whatever they may be. I think people have every right to say, " unless you walked in my shoes....". I think EVERYONE should be entited to this rebate....there shouldn't be 'stipulations' to it.
