If you are not able to afford payments on your credit cards and student loans, start paying the credit cards now and let the student loans wait for some more time. Call the lenders and request for forbearance. You can buy some time from them. When your financial situation improves later or after you have paid off the credit card debts, concentrate on the student loans.

Definitely, pay on the credit cards. Contact your student loan lender and get a forebearance. When the forebearance expires, determine whether you can afford to pay on the standard plan. If you can't apply for the income contingent plan. It's about $50 a month. But the forebearance will buy you anywhere from 6 months to a year. Income contingent can get you as much as three years. Just know that interest accrues during the forebearance and income contingent periods so you want to get back on track as soon as possible.
