I know I don't know a lot about this situation, however, I will do my best to help you a little until someone who knows more can read it and further help. I would definitely get in contact with your bank, let them know of the situation and that they were fraud because you can file to return those charges with your banks help. I believe they call them "unauthorized transactions." My bank was more than willing to help me when I was closing it because of payday loan companies still trying to take out their "interest" when I had already told them I was working with T&C ( a debt consolidation company). My bank worked with me and were willing to help with "unauthorized transactions" if they were to continue sending money through. Another thing I would do is to stop your direct deposit into that account (if you have dd). This way you are in charge of your money and they don't take out your whole check and do the same thing next time you are paid again. I hope this helps at least a little and like I said, someone else who knows more about this situation will definitely be in to help ya soon! Keep your head up, things will get better, it'll be a lot of work to get everything back on track but you'll be able to do it.

Trying to figure out what happened...
Do you have a judgement against you?
Do you have a delinquent credit card issued by the bank (or a subsidiary) that you just opened an account with?
Did you lose your ATM card?
Something else?
If you give us more details, we might be able to help you...but your post is a little vague; I'm not sure if Kim's answer covered your sitch or not...

Hi mommas5
By chance are you a victim of identity theft?
If you owe to the credit card companies, you must have given them the authorization to take out money from your account. Please tell us what happened so that we can discuss further.

I agree with morningstar. From the banks point of view, if something is presented to us for payment, we assume you gave authorization unless you tell us differently. If it's a judgement or garnishment, that would have to be in the form of legal docs. A judge would rule that it is permissable to garnish your account. The courts would send the garnishment request to the bank, and we have to comply. We send it to the legal department, and they perform the garnishment. Usually, it's for a specific amount. If there is not enough in the account to cover that amount, the bank takes out everything plus a fee, leaving a $1 balance. After that, if you did transactions that happened to post after the garnishment, those items would indeed cause you to overdraft. Once it's gotten to the point where court papers are sent to the bank for a garnishment request, there is really nothing you can do. For the credit card company to do another garnishment, they would have to get an additional court order. I hope this helps, but I would need more info to go into more detail.
