Hi, and welcome to the site. You have come to the right place. First, I would click on the "free consultation" button that is just to the right of this post. There they can help you and point you in the right direction.
thanks,
Luke

Have you tried to contact the DOE directly and arrange a suitable payment plan? You may have some good luck with them and won't need to deal with the CA. Give a try!

Hi. I have been behind on my student loans before and had pretty good luck making payment arrangements. You might want to contact them and see if they can defer the past due and let you start out as being current. That's what they did for me and it worked out well. Also, there was no more reporting to the credit bureau.

I have been taking some student loans for college. I am not really concerned about them as of now, because I am planning on studying for at least 6 more years. A lot of things will change until then. I am planning on taking a Master's degree and hopefully that will provide me with a good job, so I can afford to pay off my student loans without too much hesitation

Welcome to the board. If you post a message in the collection agency topic, explaining your situation with the collection company-- someone here is bound to have a way to help you resolve your issue. We have a lot of people here that have had many experiences with collectors and are very helpful.
I'm glad you found us and I hope you find the assistance that you need.

Hi,
I absolutely agree with most in the forum that you should try and contact your creditor and try to make payment arrangements. Additionally, you may be able to apply for a hardship deferment. I have had to do that with one of my student loans and I just had to prove that I was not getting the income needed to make the minimum payments. Now that student loan was from the state of Kentucky. i wish you the best of luck!
