My Dog - Zip

In October of 2004, I was all set to take my dog, Zip, to the Specialty dog show, for his breed. He was a rescued dog and was going to represent rescued dogs. That morning, though, I woke up and Zip just didn't seem to be himself. I got him into the vet, before departing for our drive from Detroit to Atlanta. My vet immediately sent us to MSU's Vet School, as Zip was a sick, sick boy. One and a half weeks and two surgeries later...I owed about $7,000 in bills, to MSU. I took out multiple payday loans to pay the debt...I couldn't see past getting my dog healthy. I knew, in my head, it was stupid...but I had to save his life. Sadly, two weeks later, he completely relapsed and I had to have him put to sleep. Shortly, thereafter...the payments were bouncing, everywhere, and it's been a battle, ever since. I'm working with GreenPath and, for me, it's working out beautifully. Every now and then, though, like this week, I'll get a random bought of collection calls, claiming to be from payday loans that, honestly, I don't even know if I took out. I demand proof, etc., and if it's legit, will include them in my repayments. I'll never, obviously, do anything so stupid as payday loans...if only it could have saved my dog...I miss him, horribly.

I'm so sorry about your dog. We recently lost our dog who had been part of our family for almost ten years, and it has been hard on our whole family.

I'm glad to hear that GreenPath is working out for you, and I hope that it continues to go smoothly. Good luck!

So sorry to hear about your baby. I know what it's like to have a sick pet. You worry so much and do whatever you can to help them. If you don't mind my asking, what was the cause of his illness?

Zip's illness was "Canine Acute Lymphangiectasia"...which, to put it very simply, is a breakdown of the geointestinal tract functioning properly. He'd eat but, nutritionally, was starving, because his body didn't retain nutrients. However, he had a lot of fluid, in his body, so weight loss wasn't noticed. The day that I suspected something was wrong, his abdomen seemed bloated...they removed about 3ltrs. of fluid from him, which was compressing his organs and causing those to falter. Still, no matter how his illness cost me, financially, I'd give anything, to have him back.

Sorry to hear that. Losing a pet is never easy and every time it happens to me I say "that's it, no more pets" and then I turn around and get another. My last baby died in my arms, due to a failed heart valve, on the way into the vet. Now I have TWO more to replace her! My little guy had no grove for his kneecap so I had him undergo surgery to have one made. His knee is now pinned and screwed but Thank God he is doing fine. Set me back about $2000 but with every jump he takes, I know I made the right decision. Know that I feel for your loss.

I know what you mean, llw1995, I always tell my self that's the last one, for a while...never happens. Having worked in the dog rescue world, for several years, the heartbreak is never ending, but the rewards of a pet's unconditional love is worth the sadness.

That is so sad. i'm sorry you had to go thru all of that and still not have your dog. I feel bad for you.I think I would have done the same thing as you though, a life is worth alot of PDL's and if I needed to do that for a reason such as yours, I think I would have too.
