My husband and I are looking to put an addition on our home, however when we tried to apply for home equity loans we were told our debt to income ratio is too high. We are having trouble finding a loan to pay off some of our credit card debt. Any suggestions?

Look for some consolidation companies that offer consolidation loans. It's a loan that helps in paying off the debts under the DMP program. Your credit should not be a factor in getting this type of loan. See the ranking chart for different companies in your area.
