Hello All!

(2) questions. Can you request validation at any time? I found something on my credit report that has been there for years. I requested validation and they said they didnt have to validate because it wasnt inside the thirty days they give you when they first report it. Is this true? Does your validation privileges go away after that initial 30 days???

I'm preparing an attack on midland credit management. Do you have to hire an attorney from the same state in which you live? I live in New Mexico but cant seem to find an attorney here. I've seen online websites for attorneys in California and elsewhere but it seems like they only serve their immediate area. Any thoughts? Anyone know a good attorney?

This post may get edited, but http://members.naca.net/findanattorney.php is a great place to find attorneys in this arena.

You can also contest things on your credit report through the reporting bureau.

Again, I'm not sure what links I can post here, so do a search via google.

if you can't find a close attorney on naca, I would recommend finding the closest legal aid office...they can generally find you the best attorney

The attorney must be licensed in the state where you plan to bring suit. Check your state law on validation. The fdcpa is a bit unclear sometimes, but states that just because you didn't send a demand for validation within the 30 days doesn't mean the debt should be assumed to be for real.
