I have recently divorced and now am in serious financial debt. My own credit cards are at $20K, while my ex-husband has incurred additional credit card charges (just prior to our divorce and also in my name) making me responsible for approximately $10K of additional debt. My attorney has recommended filing bankruptcy but I hesitate doing this --up until a few months ago, my credit score was in the high 700's.

...I want to apply for debt consolidation to help lower my car and credit card payments, but I want to enroll in a graduate program. Does the above quote (from this website under Ohio Debt Consolidation) mean that I may not be able to apply for student loan(s) for my graduate education?

My fiance and I are looking to consolidate several credit cards (debt about 9500) from the bills we have from renovating our house.
