I got a call from a collection agency at work today. Are they allowed to call me at work anytime? Can they ask to speak to my boss?

K, is it a Collection Agency? or the collection department for a pdl? If it is a collection agency, there are laws regarding what they can do. I had my pdls refered to collections...what i did was request validation of the debt and I faxed it and mailed it. The calls stopped (from one company) as soon as I faxed the letter. I was sure to follow up with a letter sent certified return receipt...here is a sample letter that is posted on the fourm. It includes pretty much everything....including no contact...you just need to change the information to refelct your situation.

Here also is a link to a sticky on the Dealing with collection agencies fourm ...the sticky is about the Federal Debt Collection Practice Act, which governs 3rd party collections.

You need to send them a cease and desist letter asap. Just tell them that you demand that they stop calling you at yur home and your place of business. tell them you will only allow correspondence by usps or e mail.
