Any idea what to expect regarding the 4 Ohio storefront loans I have? Will they allow me to make payments or will they just lock their doors and start depositing my checks?

Check into cash
Advance America
American Payroll Advance
Cashland

Thanks Toledo Guy.

I called a couple of them up (did not identify myself) here is the scoop they gave me:

I talked to cashland and they say they will continue to loan for a couple more months. They are looking into "Broker Loans" and some other type of income based loan product. They may start up a pawn shop also.

I called Check into cash (they will not loan to new customers). They were wishy washy about loaning to existing customers.

It passed, I posted the article in the payday loan news forum. La la, I am sure there will be some type of time frame before this law goes into effect.

YESSSS it passed!!!! Shazzers I have a question. I read the article and it said it will ban internet payday loans. I thought they were already illegal. I wonder if this will help with the cases that I have now. I still have nothing from the AG office and it has been three weeks. I contacted my rep and she said no news yet.

Guest....personally I would not mine the guns going away too. That is just my opinion.

Shazz, in the article, at the very end it says "Strickland has said he supports the bill, which must still get final House concurrence. What does final "House concurrence" mean?

That just means it's up for a final vote in the house of representatives. And to answer you question mandywebb, I'm pretty sure they were legal [internet pdl loans], interestingly enough though, I was just reading the laws and this is what it states:
Quote:
Ohio State Information

Legal Status: Legal (Applies to check cashers only)

Citation:
Ohio Rev. Code Ann. ยงยง 1315.35 et seq.

Quote:
sec. 1315.39. (A) A check-cashing business licensed under sections 1315.35 to 1315.44 of the Revised Code may engage in the business of making loans provided that each loan meets all of the following conditions:

It makes me wonder, maybe they weren't legal after all. Hey Goudah, enlighten me please?

shazzers...I think I am confused. Are you saying you think that internet pdls were legal in ohio? From what I understood they were illegal. Maybe I am not understanding what you are saying.

Imale, Internet pdl's are/were legal in Ohio as long as they were licensed and followed the laws of the state of Ohio, ei., the interest rates/fees.

Now I am totally confused. I have been told this whole time they were illegal in Ohio. I don't ever remember seeing that they had to be licensed in Ohio to be legal. I have checked my other posts and I have been told they were illegal. As far as I know though none of the internets pdls are licensed here but like I said I thought it did not matter. Is this a standard that they have to be licensed in the the state you live in?

As far as I know, they don't have to be licensed IN Ohio, just licensed, but they MUST follow the laws of Ohio, ei., interest rate/fees, etc.
