Calls have started again from collectors

I have posted on here a few years ago. About two years ago I received tons of calls everyday from what I was told was scam debt collectors. They have very thick Indian accents. The calls have started again. I have approximately 30 calls on my answering machine today from a guy with a v ery thick accent again. He said very bad things would happen to me and all he could do was wish me well.

Do I even call him back? I assume I do not but 30 calls is kind of freaking me out. I c urrently have one payday loan but am paying on it regularly. I had several loans back 5 or 6 years ago but they have long been paid or settled. When they start calling, I am always afraid I have forgotten something. Even if I have, would I even deal with these guys? I made the mistake about 8 years ago of letting them scare me and I paid them. It was not until after that that I read up on them and found out I had been scammed.

Any advice?

Calm down, take a deep breath...I know this is what I needed to do when I recieved the EXACT same type of phone calls both at home and at work, non-stop and at the time I had no payday loans or had taken any out in the past so I knew these calls to be bogus from the start.

The calls started coming in around last summer, and each time it was from a person with a heavy indian accent claiming to be from a lawfirm and some payday loan company wanted their money back and demanded I pay him immediately.

I was first really unnerved by these calls, and startled, I didn't know what to do as I'd never recieved collection calls before, however I gathered up my wits and really sat down and thought it over, even contacted a lawyer which confirmed them to be bogus call and told me how to handle them.

When I recieved yet another call from a person claiming to be from a law firm I asked first his name, in which he acted confused, and rattled off something so fast I couldn't write it down, I asked him to spell it in which he did, I then asked where he was calling from and he hung up, I fired back by calling straight back only a different person answered and I demanded their name and the name of their company and told them I wanted the information so I could turn it over to my lawyer, the person actually BEGGED me to forget about them and told me they took my name off the list, I laughed so hard. I haven't heard from them since. So my advice is challenge them, make them give you information about who they are, act like your out to investigate them, make them nervous, as you don't owe them a single dime and you can prove it!

This is a scam that has been going on for at least a year, possibly longer. The people almost always have East Indian accents and will say that they need to speak with you about an important business matter and that if you don't call back all they can do is "wish you luck." A friend of mine got calls at work and since she works for the government, homeland security actually got involved.

I got a call last week on my personal phone and a work phone. The woman did not leave a message on my personal phone but left a message on my work phone not saying why she was calling or what company she represented but saying that she wished me luck if I didn't call back. Of course I tried to call back (408-426-6582) but I got a message saying the call couldn't be completed.

I found information on a google search saying that this is a company that gets people's information from pdl companies which is why they will sometimes say that you owe on a pdl. I don't know how true that is but it does seem like most people who receive the calls have had pdls at some point.

Remember, any LEGITIMATE debt collector will willingly give you their name, their company, will send a letter to validate the debt if you request it and will NOT say that the sheriff is going to come for you at work. My advice would be to not worry about it.
