Who will cash my paycheck??

I know this is kinda off-topic. But I figured since payday loans is the reason I no longer have a bank account to cash my checks, i would go ahead and ask. Anyways, i'm waiting on a HUGE paycheck (60 hours of OT)and i'm worried I will have trouble cashing it. Our home office is located in NJ and i'm in Ohio, so it's an out of state check. I've been using Walmart to cash my checks but not this time. Walmart only allows you to cash $1,500.00 worth of checks in a 14 day period. This check will be for more then that alone. Meijers wont cash out of state checks. Krogers, Biggs, and IGA (grocery stores) said it will be too large for them to cash. I hate the idea of paying a check cashing place 3-5%. Any ideas???

Ask someone in you payroll or HR departments at work. Every place I’ve ever worked had a local bank set up that will cash the check. I’m sure your company has an account with a local bank for petty cash and such, which should be able to cash your check.

I know in the state of Illinois they have "currency exchanges" that specifically cash checks for a fee. And there are one or two places like that around here in Indiana. Check your yellow pages. A long time ago I had an issue like that...I signed the check over to my sister...she deposited it in her account...when it cleared she withdrew the money and gave it to me.

Is there any branches of the bank that the check is drawn off of in your town?

Why not open a new account with a different bank. Preferably the same one the check is drawn against so there will be no hold on it.

Do you not have a bank account because of Chexsystems, Telecheck, etc?

We can help you find a bank account so this is no longer a worry . . . . We have a whole banking forum, which after this post I'm going to move this thread to. MCA (Mary) is awesome at finding people a bank, she can help you!

Thanks for the ideas although none of them worked. Our work does not deal in petty cash. Everything is expensed and then paid once a month via direct deposit. HR had no suggestions and does not have any local bank accounts. The closest local branch my company uses is in New York, i live in Ohio. I tried to open a bank account and cash the check, but they all said it would take at least 5 days before my money is available. Well, thanks anyways.

No luck w/ the Liquor store. Guess i'm gonna have to go to a check cashing place. Seems like they always end up getting my money one way or another.

Why can't you open a bank account? Is it because of Chexsystems?

You know what...even if you open an account and have to wait five days before it's available, that's better than paying a fee to a check cashing place. Do you really need the whole amount of the check before five days? Sometimes, if the bank you open an account at is familiar with the company you work for, they may decide to not hold it. It's up to the branch manager if they are willing to remove the hold. Or you can request that they take a copy of the check and call to see if it's cleared after about 2 days. The first $100 of a deposit is always made available at the time of the deposit, anyway. Just a thought. Anything to keep those check cashing places from taking money!
