|
|
I have been in the PDL trap for about 8 months now, and it's come to a point where I need to end it or risk losing a lot more than some money to fees.
I have PDLs outstanding with two companies, one of which is Cash Transfer Centers (as most of you know: a/k/a Northway Financial Corporation, etc.). I have done extensive research on the laws in my state with regard to PDLs. The first company (I'll call them "NOT CTC") has been nothing but helpful to me in resolving my situation and has abided by all state laws regarding allowing me to enter into an installment payment program to pay off my outstanding amount. CTC's answer to me, despite state law, was of course, "No, the loan is due in full on xx/xx; but you can immediately reloan." Well, that's great - except I don't WANT to reloan, as the exorbitant (not to mention illegal) interest and fees they charge have only exacerbated my debt situation.
So, I have spoken with my bank, and the branch manager has kindly placed a freeze on my account until I can figure this out. All of my other outstanding checks/debits have cleared, so I am comfortable with that. I have also spoken with my payroll department regarding the possiblity of these crooks presenting an illegal Wage Assignment to them. I've been assured that unless the document is from a specific agency (Friend of the Court, other official agences), there must be a court order, otherwise, they will not honor the Wage Assignment. I am filing a complaint with the State's AG, as well.
One thing I would like to know, if anyone has an answer - I am willing to pay these people (in installments I can afford, so as not to take food off my family's table) what I owe them, but now that I am looking into the laws in my state, and I have spoken with the OFIS (Office of Financial and Insurance Services) regarding CTC's illegal fees, over the course of several months and several loans with them, I have already paid CTC more in illegal fees than I currently owe them. Does that count for anything? Can I recoup that money somehow?
Is there one specific address that is better than another for Northway Financial Corporation Ltd. to send my Revocation of Wage Assignment and Revocation of Authorization to Debit Account letters to?
Thanks for any help!

Just go through the following: -
| Quote: | | Zip19.com is forwarding loans to its customers through Northway Financial Corporation Ltd. which in turn is a financial institution lending money online to the customers of North America and Europe. Northway Financial Corp Ltd. operates under the supervision of MFSA (Malta Financial Services Authority) and thus is regulated by the laws of Malta. |
| Quote: | | A strange aspect has been witnessed about Zip19. It is part of a group consisting of Cash Transfer Centers (CTC), Payday Avenue and Sonic and the mother domain is known as E-Care Contact Centers. |
You should go through Update on Northway Financial to have a better insight of Cash Transfer Centers.

I too have defaulted with Cash Transfer Centers and I sent letters to their fax number on the website and the fax number i found on E-Care Contact Centers. I also mailed copies to Malta and the canada address. I have not heard a word from them yet. I defaulted on 6/27 but sent the letters a week before that. I figure any day the calls will begin.

Now I'm in the process of trying to figure out how best to move my money around. My husband auto-deposits part of his money into this account also, and as everyone probably knows, trying to get direct deposits changed is a nightmare. It takes FOREVER. I can't afford for these people to get a hold of money out of my account and spend days or possibly longer trying to get it back.
Has anyone had experience with CTC finding new accounts and attempting to debit them? I just wonder if I need to worry about this.

I am going into my bank at lunch to move my money. We have a savings account that is "linked" to this account, but obviously has a different account number. My husband's portion of his check goes there.
The woman at the bank did something she said she is technically not supposed to do, which is freeze all debits on my account. She seems to think the best thing for me to do is to unfreeze it, move my money, and then have her freeze it again. Does this sound like a good idea to you? I guess then we could close it once all of the direct deposits are cleared and changed to new accounts. However, does this mean I have no recourse if she happens to make a mistake and not freeze the account and a debit goes through?
Is it safe to move my money to another account at the same bank? The bank tells me it is (of course).
I'm really, really worried.

My savings account and checking account were linked as well. I took out what money was in there, closed the account and opened another. My bank assured me that nothing would reopen the old account nor would anything go through the new account. They kept their promise. Hopefully yours will as well.

After reading some other threads here, I am now close to panic-state over the possibility of identity theft, too.
What in the hell was I thinking? The other company I dealt with (Check 'n Go) is reputable and easy to work with, at least. I will NEVER obtain another PDL as long as I live. I would really like to know why these illegal internet companies are being allowed to operate, still, so freely, when it is clear just from this forum that the word is out on them.

the reason that they are allowerd to operate is because its hard to find there location.since they are illegal , they are not allowed to do business buts its hard to regulate a company that you can't find.I always thought people who borrowed money on the internet were nuts.

I have filed a complaint against Northway, and I just heard from OFIS on the matter. They will be sending a letter to Northway regarding unlicensed (illegal) activity in the state.
Can anyone who has dealt with Northway tell me how long it took them to try to debit your account again after the first attempt was unsuccessful? I have a debit block on the account, but it may still show up as pending, which will throw me into another panic, because I have to wait until the next day to see that it was blocked. I am wondering how long it will be before they attempt to gain access to my account again. If someone can tell me about their personal experience with Northway/Cash Transfer Center, I would greatly appreciate it. It helps to ease my mind when I have an idea of what to expect.

CTC does not care what state or federal agency contacts them. They are operating from outside the borders and consider themselves untouchable. This also works to their disadavantage as they can't make you pay them either because they are illegal. If you have blocked your account and spoke to your employer, wait for the settlement offer to come. It will be half or more. Then you can choose to pay it or not! If you choose not, just ignore them!

I figured the State contacting them would be nothing more than a gesture, but it also lets them know that I KNOW they're operating illegally, so I thought it was worth the stamp.
I am going to go back over my bank statements and determine the amount of illegal interest/fees I have paid them. If the principal amount I borrowed turns out to be more than the amount they have overcharged me -- and I have paid -- in interest/fees, I will be happy to pay them the difference, and I intend to do that research this weekend and wait for their offer. I just don't want them trying to tap my account again before I can close it. The man at OFIS told me to be very careful and close the account as soon as possible...which is exactly what I want to do!!

Okay, now I'm really embarrassed. I majored in English...not that you can tell. I'm changing the word again to "principal." Man, I feel stupid. Sorry everyone!
