What???? Your employer wrote you a check that you can not cash becuase the employer has no $$ in their account???? Unbelievable. I certainly hope you take this up with your employer. That is just wrong.

Ryder, can you open another account at a different bank? And get direct deposit.

Ryder, I am not sure if that is true or not. I would check out the banking fourm and see what information is posted there. If you still are not sure pm MCA, she is the mod there and knows alot. I know there are banks that will open accounts for people with banking issues. So I am willing to bet there is a bank that will, just not sure which. Definately check with MCA though.

Anytime.. I hate not being able to answer for sure, but I do know MCA has helped many members that could not open bank accounts becuase of Chexsystems or other reasons. She helped me with an issue with telecheck.

ryder and roxy - I have a friend who just opened a new bank account with no problem at all. And, he has another account that is overdrawn at the moment. I think it's like $100 in the negative. He went to another bank, filled out the paperwork, and they opened an account for him. I'm thinking (and I could be wrong here) that if the overdrawn bank doesn't report you, that you're "safe" opening another account?? I know that his other account that's overdrawn is still open. So, it's like they're just waiting for him to make a deposit to bring it back up to the positive again. So, he didn't have a problem. However, I'm no expert. MCA is. But I had to at least post this information for ryder.

Do you have a hard debit block? If you have a hard debit block, then credit will go in, so your direct deposit will be okay. If you have a total freeze on your account, it'll prevent ANYTHING. So, do you have just a debit block on it?

Okay, ryder. Ask them if you have a hard debit block on your account. If so, this means that no money will go out, but money can come in. If they put a total freeze on your account, then nothing can come out or go in. So, see what they have to say. I'm thinking maybe they just put a debit block on it; however, you want to be sure. That way your check can still be accepted as a credit to your account.

Cannr, thanks for the info...I was thinking that it was possible to open an account, but I did not know for sure and did not want to give a yes unless I was sure. I know people in that situation as well and I know people here have posted that they were able to open a new account, but you know me...always error on the side of caution.

Hey, I got in the same boat in Tennessee as you did. As far as the signature loans, the only thing (as my understanding) that they can do is turn you over to collections and then report it negative on your credit. If you are like me and the rest of us, your credit is probably already poor or you wouldn't have gotten into this mess in the first place, lol....I just decided to take this head on. One threatened to take me to jail and even went as far as to send me petitions that they supposedly sent to the judge to have me arrested. Funny thing is this: I called the courthouse and the district attorney---they never filed the petition and even if they did they couldn't have done anything. The only thing they can do is take me to small claims court then put a judgement on my credit. It is horrible, but the D.A. said they will most likely push me to collections for a year or more before they even took me to small claims. I am doing everything to work out arrangements with them, but they won't budge. I am going to type up some certified letters to each of them with an enclosed money order for the amount I can afford each month, then they can take it or leave it. If they accept my payment, even if its $5, then the judge will look favorably on my behalf (usually). So I wouldn't stress so much. It will all work itself out. I promise..... :P
