Too many payday loans in Ohio

I am so glad I found this forum. I am struggling with 6 payday loans right now (I live in Ohio). I have had these same loans for almost a year now (no rollovers but keep going back to the same SF lenders and paying and reloaning over and over :O ) I am so stressed out and have been paying about $800 to $1000 per month just in fees to keep the loans afloat. I am thinking about asking these companies for EPP but not sure what their response will be....Here are the companies and the amounts...can someone tell me if these companies will work with me or hassle me about this? all but Cash Inn are CFSA members....

Checksmart $912 due 10/3 ($800 loan)
Cashland $912 due 10/13 ($800 loan)
Check into Cash $912 due 10/3 ($800 loan)
Advance America $912 due 10/3 ($800 loan)
Check N Go $912 due 10/3 ($800 loan)
Cash Inn $460 due 10/11 ($400 loan)

I am so stressed out about this I have had anxiety and other physical problems....also have been falling further behind on other bills to keep these afloat because afraid they will call my friends relatives.....

HELP!

Are you the same person as dmjtb? If so, I answered your post on the other topic, but no matter, since you've joined us we can try and figure out a course of action! Smile You are entitled to requesting the EPP, it's a part of the guidelines these companies must follow in order to remain a member of the CFSA! I know it's very difficult to swallow your pride and go into these lender offices and explain that you need to get on their EPP plan, but you may be surprised at just how cooperative they are, once you ask. They aren't strangers to this happening, and at least you are making every effort to pay them back, some people never bother to even try, so please don't feel bad about doing this, you are doing the right thing! You really don't need to have an excuse or reason why you need to request the EPP plan, all they need to know is you're in the midst of a hardship and are making a request for the EPP plan! Smile

I know CheckSmart will work with you. Just go in and speak to the manager, but go in the day before its due. They will split your total amount in 4 payments, so you would pay $228. I just paid my last payment to them two weeks ago... Its a process... but like someone on this forum said, you didn't get in this mess overnight so it will take some time getting out of it... we've all been there... I'm still there! Wink But if they are CFSA members they should do the EPP plan.

no, this is the first time I have posted to this forum. I just stumbled upon the site yesterday while searching the web for PDL help. I do realize it will take me awhile to get out and I want to pay these debts off because I am the one who got myself into this mess and I know the high % etc I just want to get out of the spiral of having to go the stores every 2 weeks on payday and paying them and then going back the next day to reloan (this is driving me crazy Smile Thankfully I have a good income which helps but I am single parent and it is making it hard to live since the fees use up my extra $$. I am glad to hear some of them will work with me...I am afraid of Check Into Cash though. They told me when I opened the loan they would come to my work , home and call my relatives if I didn't pay so I hesitate to ask them to work out an agreement or EPP. I was thinking of letting Checksmart and Cashland just "bounce" so I can work with their Corporate offices who seem to give more time and flexibility with paying back (they are nicer too) -- of course then I have to pay NSF fees. anyone worked with Check into cash on this before? I appreciate all of the responses....I thought I was the only one to get into this huge mess :O glad to hear I am not and we are in this together Smile

I guess its up to you how to handle Checksmart and Cashland. Like I said, I personally had no trouble getting the EPP, and from what I've heard on this forum, Checksmart's corporate office isn't very nice to deal with. As far as Check Into Cash, I looked them up and they are members of CFSA, it even lists CFSA best practices on their own website, so they are supposed to give you an EPP. Just speak to the manager. If they will not work with you, contact the CFSA and report them. Just some friendly advice...

Hang in there... Very Happy

Check into Cash and Advance America was the easiest companies to work with. Dealing with Checksmart corp office was a pain and very nasty to deal with. Check into Cash and Advance America allowed me to make monthly payments (and it took me a year to pay them off).

Yes, Checksmart's corporate office is a pain in the a**. I had one of their collectors call me everyday with threats. I finally included them in my BK.

Advance America let me make monthly payments.

Give them as little information as possible, be direct and to the point, tell them you are requesting the EPP due to some unexpected financial hardships. I have found that usually saying less is "more". It just seemed to work for me. Good luck and take good care, everything will work out for you. Wink

PostPosted: Wed Oct 01, 2008 8:20 am Subject: EPP and CFSA

I called CFSA this a.m.and left a voice mail about how the EPP works in Ohio and if the PDLs must give them. I received a reply back from someone from CFSA saying she "really wanted to speak with me"....I wonder if she is concerned that these PDLs should be checking to see how many PDLs are owed and if they are violating their rules? could the 6 PDLs be in trouble with CFSA for giving out PDLs to someone who already has more than one? I wonder if CFSA will come down on them for that??? especially given the current financial situation and the PDL issue on the ballot Nov 4 in Ohio??? any thoughts ?

Good for you, I am glad you did this!! The CFSA can probably only revoked their memberships for not following guidelines they set forth, then again, perhaps they carry some weight in the way business is conducted. I'm sure all the controversy going on in Ohio has a lot to do with it also.
