Hi -
I have 11 PDL's and have made the decision, after spending time on this wonderful website to take my life and my paycheck back. I am willing to pay the original amounts to the lenders even through PDL's are prohibited in Connecticut. Should I work with T & C, who I have already spoken too....or should I try to handle this myself and let them know that the small loan cap applies? My biggest concern is that they will try to contact me at work. Right now I am not indefault and my next pay day is 4/25.
Any thoughts?

Lisa, everyone handles their situation differently. You can research T&C by using the search box in the top right corner of the page. Whether you use T&C or handle this yourself, they will contact you at work. The difference is, you would refer them to T&C, if you choose to go that route. This is something you can do yourself. It will take some time but it can be done. It just depends on if you want to do the work or if you want someone else to do the work. Why don't you go ahead and list who your pdls are with, whether they are store front or internet, how much you borrowed from each and the total of how much you have paid back to each. That way we can look at them with you and help you make a more informed decision.

Hi - there are all internet:
Magnum - $700
One Click: $400 -
National Opportunities: $500
CMG - $400
Thinkcash: $153
MTE, Cash Advance Network - I owe under $150 each.
Those are relatively new and I have paid 2 renewals on each. The rest are small and almost paid off so I'm not that concerned about those.

Opinion here, you can do this yourself. You do not have that many to take care of. It would take time but it can be done if you are willing. If you do not want to take the time, you can have T&C take care of them. You posted you already talked to T&C, just be sure they are able to help you. Like I posted above, you can type T&c or Towne and Country in the search box above and see what other members have posted about them. The pro of doing it yourself, it will only cost your for paper, postage and time...with T&C you will have to pay their fees. No matter who handles this, the companies will most likely still call. You will still need to close your bank account. What ever decision you make, we will be here to help you. There are several members who go with a company who stick around and post even on topics such as this.

Is the first step closing my bank account? How long do you think I have before they figure it out?
I know I have to do something.....the whole process makes me a little nervous.

Lise, it is scary. People who you do not know are giving you this advice and you are not sure if you will get in trouble or not. I was there...we were all there. I had 9 pdls when I started...and now I am down to 3, so the work is worth it and I did it myself with the constant help of the members of this fourm.
Yes, you need to close your account. The pdls will not stop debiting no matter what you do. Do not tell them you are closing your account either or they will debit all of what you owe. It took mine a couple of days after their scheduled debit to figure it out and then they emailed me and called. But we will cross that bridge when time comes.
I take it, we are going to tackle this together. We will be here every step of the way and will help you with whatever you need.

Thank you! I closed my bank account on Saturday so that is the first step. My debits are not going to hit until 4/25 so I will have a little time. I will be in touch.....this site is great. Is there anything I should do now or should I wait......I'm really looking forward to my paycheck.

Lisa, Once you are sure it is closed, YOu will need to either demand the pdls mark you paid in full or you will need to work out payment arrangements with the ones you still owe money too. We have a letter you can use as a template for this. If you get a chance could you post the name of each pdl, how much you borrowed from each and the total of how much you paid back to each and we can help you figure out where you stand. Here is a thread with a letter so you can see what I am refering to . I f you have any questions, do not hesitate to ask.

Hi,
Since I'm at work I will have to pull all this together tomorrow. Do most of these people set up arrangements? If they are set up, and you keep them, do they still bother you at work?

Lisa, that is ok..just get to it whenever you have a chance. Some are easier to deal with than others about arrangements. I would think they will not harrass you if you agree to arrangement terms. I am sure someone with more experience with that will post their experiences. Hang in there.

Hi,
I was telling a good friend my situation, basically telling her how stupid I was with all these loans and asking her what she thought of doing this myself or having a company help me. She said she would give (not loan) give me the money to pay these people. I know, that is a gift from God. Now, my question is: I have already closed my bank account, debits are due to hit this Friday. Should I wait for them to contact me and set up arrangements? They are still illegal in Ct. and I don't want to give them anymore fees than I have to. I was also going to put the money on a prepaid debit card and pay them that way.

lisa, what an angel friend you have! Since pdls are prohibited in your state, only pay the PRINCIPLE AMOUNT of the loans. No fees, no interest, nothing. Only agree to pay the principle amount of the loans. Okay? Legally, they can't do squat to you regardless of what you do. Morally, the correct thing to do is pay back what they deposited into your bank account, as they did give the money to you and you did use the money. So.... only agree to the principle amount - period. Not a penny more. And, using a pre-paid debit card is a good way to go. Don't let these guys bully you into paying one red cent more than the principle amount. They are actually lucky to be receiving that!

I know - - she is an angel. I'm very lucky and I will be going to church this Sunday! I told her once this is settled we will work out a payment arrangement. Do you have any thoughts about what I should say to them? Like, "I know these are prohibited...lets cut the b.s. and I'll pay the principle?" and should I let them contact me first?
Thank you for all your help.

Lisa, Awsome! I would go ahead and send the letters advising them that you are only obligated to pay the principle and would like a good address to mail your payment to. They will more than likely call you anyway when they do not get their payment.
