Today's assignment was GECC. I received a letter from PD Recovery Inc - Collections from Utah over the weekend. I called them when I got home and had to leave a message but they called back about an hour later. The first girl I talked to was very nice but told me she just wasn't up on all the state laws so she passed me on to her supervisor. She started off with the old now let me understand you signed a contract, you knew the terms and now you don't want to pay us back. I just kept my cool and kept repeating every time you are right I did sign a contract and agree to the terms but then I found out that payday loans are illegal in NY so I do believe the terms of the contract are now void. I have paid $821 on a $400 loan. So she asks so now you want a REFUND? I said no actually I haven't been with GECC very long so all I am looking for is a PIF. If I can have something in writing I will send it in to the Attorney General and update my complaint form. Now I can't talk to what the Attorney General will do, I have heard he is very agressive to get refunds to NY'ers that have overpaid on these loans but like I said before I am just looking for a PIF. She then got very nice and said she needed to talk to Mark (who ever that is) and she verified my address and said I should have a letter in 3 days or so. If I haven't heard by Monday she said to please give her a call back. I said regardless of the outcome I just want it known I am working with you and don't want you to think it needs to go any further than contacting me. She said no problem she understood and she appreciated me working with them. I then hung up and tossed my cookies (sorry TMI) I talk a good game but man this stuff eats my insides out! To all of you out there keep on plugging - it really works to just deal with one at a time.

I just hope that you get the letter after three days about your account marked PIF and then put a success story here. Way to go!

If they are still giving you trouble, Mperez, I can give you a POC at GECC who gave me a PIF even after my loan was with a collection agency. I wish you luck on your continued success!

mperez, could they not give you a PIF via email? Are they still "working it out"? And are you sure you don't want to work out a refund? I know PIF's are extremely great to get, just to get them off your back. But you paid SO MUCH more than you were required to legally. I understand you just want them out of your life, believe me. I've settled with a couple just to make them go away! But you're talking a few hundred dollars here! If you don't have your letter in 3 days, like joshua said, ask him for a person's name that might be able to help you. I've gotten PIF's via email. That's good enough for me. As long as I have it in writing!

Thank you Joshua I got it that time. Did you try and get a refund of any overpayment or were you OK with just getting the PIF? Maybe I shouldn't let them off the hook - I overpaid by like $300 if I was going to honor NY small loan cap of 25%

I was ok with getting just the PIF. I had a few pdls that I was battling at the time, so it was just a relief to have one less worry about, especially since in was in collections for about 4 months! yuck I did request a refund in my email and over the phone, but they were stubborn about that. What really scared them was when they got the BBB on their backs!
But it doesn't hurt to ask. Perhaps if more people are sending in complaints like us they will eventually come around.

OK - Thanks for sharing. Right now I feel the same way. I started with 15 and this will leave me 10. This Thursday I'm sending some $ off to two of my newer ones because I still owe principle and I figure I'll just pay until I fulfill that and then I won't get so overwhelmed. One of the 10 left if Cash2day4U out of the UK so I really shouldn't count them because they are never going to see another dime. They only called me once and I haven't heard from them again. I'm sure they will crop up again but I'm ready for that confrontation.
