Sometimes it happens. But if it does you can go and talk to your bank because you did not give them permission to debit that account.

I know there is a post about this. I will see if I can find it and post the link to it. So please hang on.

I moved to a totally different bank. I dont trust banks any more than PDL lenders.

There was a thread on the board [banking?] about Deluxe Check Printers working with CAs a while back. Wonder if that might explain it?

Usually a new bank account gets hit, if you apply for another pdl and give them the new ifo. They do share and they have so manty affiliatesyou really dont know who is related and who is not. We do always reccommend opening up your new accpoount at a different bank, to be sure there are no errors as to linking new ad old accounts. Also never apply for a new loan

A posted this once before, In my opinion it's also a good idea to open two new checking accounts, one gets the money deposited into it but a check NEVER gets written on that account, don't even have checks for it. You transfer your money from the deposit only account to the account that you use to write checks on. You only transfer what you need to cover your checks.

This way if they ever do get the account information to the second account they can't clean you out totally.

Great idea. The bank will not allow ant debits to go thru except your own transfers??. This is something i may look into. Its been a long time, but I am still so paranoid, i check my account several times a day

I maintain a separate account at a different bank as a 'clean backup' in case of problems with the other account. I don't have PDLs, so I don't have to worry about that, but ya never know what could happen.

Remember, you aren't paranoid if they really are out to get you.

Kash, We can transfer money into the second account and use a debit card, nothing else. WaMu transfers from account to account are done instantly so theres no wait either.

This is by no means fail safe but it's a step in the right direction. You can also deposit everything into a savings and transfer into checking as you need it. We did this because my wife only gets paid once a month, around the first we'll have $4000 or so deposited, her monthly check plus my weekly check. We'd be totally screwed if one of the PDL's hit us in the main deposit account.

LOL now for the paranoia part, I'm also going back to keeping a good amount of cash around, if I was really paranoid I'd have gold coins. Look at hurricane Katrina, it wasn't like you could go to the bank or hit an ATM machine, it's always a good idea to have some cash around.

When we had our run of hurricanes a few years ago we took out cash before each one and we did need it.

The main culprit, as Kash stated, where pdl's find your new account info is applying for another PDL...you dont even have to be approved, once your info is out thre, its out there.

Also, writing checks at grocery stores, etc. that use your Drivers License to validate your identity can alert some of the check clearinghouses of your current account info. The PDL's tend to scour these databases for info.

For the most part, and I work for a bank, no random person can just call up and say "can I have John Doe's account # and their ssn# is 555-55-5555." Once I forgot my account # (it was new) and they refused to give it to me over the phone even when I id'ed everything under the sun.
