Ok
The calls have started. Got a really nasty call from # 800 864 6033. I googled the number and it was Sims Associates. Called and got threatened, so I hung up.I dont even know which lender it was for. They refused to tell me.They wanted to scream instead.
Please let me know what to do now, I thought I was calm about all this, but apparently these places still intimadate me.

Try not to let them intimidate you. I know it's easier said then done, but you have to be strong. Know that you are in the right. These people are scum.

If you think you are going to get worried then just hang up the phone. These people aren't going to be reasoned with anyways.

As always you have calmed my fears . Am I correct in thinking that in reality there is nothing they can do to me. No jail, no arrest, no garnishment

That is correct. They cannot touch you. That is why they are trying to scare you into paying. If they really could do things to collect they would not need to threaten you.

Goudah is right- These people count on the fact they can upset and scare you into paying them, even if you don't owe!! I deal only with collecots through the mail, that way I don't get upset and have to deal with that!!..Karen

Yes good idea karen. I only deal with my collections through the mail. I immediately send them a cease and desist order so they don't hound me by telephone day and night.

Thanks guys.
i sent via e mail a cease and desist letter. they e mailed back that it would not work and they were marking my file. They said they would call my landlord. They told me they could find him thru some type of records. They told me that they could get me on fraud charges and have me arrested. They do not have my new work number and told me if I refused to tell them where I now worked it was identity theft, that i was claiming not to be me and working under an assumed name.
Please guys keep reassuring me that they can not do anything.
Oh the person from Sims told me that they were an assest management company

Keep records and notes of everything they say, dates and times. I have done this, and when I repeated dates and times and what they said to me, they got nervous! Are these people pdls, or collection agencies for credit cards?

They cannot do anything.

Most of us have got those threats in the past. We were never arrested. Nothing ever happened. They are hollow threats.

Think of it this way - If everyone that defaulted on a loan was put in jail, there would be a huge overcrowding problem! They would have to build a whole lot more jails!

They are collection ageencies i believe for pdls. I have no credit card problems. I do not want them contacting my landlord. Do you think they can do that

lol@ Goudah! I told them when they threatened me, to come and get me, at leaset I wouldn't have to take care of anyone and someone would take care of me-they hung up!!..KAren

You are correct. There would not be any room left in the jails. We would have to get a shorter sentence than Paris Hilton LOL
I have to keep remembering that there are no more debtors prisons

I know- that's why I don't talk to them on the phone, I get too upset. Except now, I am pretty bold with one of them, they knwo they have broken regulations, and they know I knwo it!! They have said they see from the notes they have that I am "debt educated", I told them, it was about time!!..KAren Hang in there!! Very Happy

I am from Ct. and have never heard of a Payday loan until I came to this site. It sounds like these are just modern day loan sharks. I was just doing some Google “ing” on this and am shocked at how many states allow such loans. I found a lot of information on this site http://www.paydayloaninfo.org/index.cfm. I don’t know how accurate it is.
