We are screwed again! Got a call that my mother-in-law is going in for heart surgery tomorrow. Just drained our account (in fact put it in the red) to get my husband a ticket and some extra cash to go be with her. Have checks out against the money. I know I am going to get several NSF fees and know that these checks are going to be returned. I do get paid Friday, but it isn't very much and definitly not enough to cover these checks. One is the house payment and one is my utility payment, and there are a few misc checks, grocery, persciptions, etc. Do not know what I am going to do. My husband is going to be gone for a couple of weeks, he has no vacation left and that means no paycheck from him. I do not know what I am going to do!! I have already called my folks and they do not have the money to lend me because they had bought a plane ticket for my son to fly out to visit them and it is nonrefundable and know we cannot get a loan due to our credit. We were starting to make a little headway and now this. I feel like I take 2 steps forward and 5 steps back! What am I going to do???? I am already paying back a loan that we had to take out from my company a year ago. It is almost paid off, but I cannot get another on until it is PIF. I am just at the end of my rope right now. I know the mortgage company will not send the checks through a second time. The utilty company might and not sure which of the others will, but the I have all the fees! Right now I feel like just giving up and letting everything go and live on the street! This totally stinks. I know this isn't his mom's fault and if it were my mom, I would want to be there too, but this is just a bad time right now. I am not going to do it, but the thought did cross my mind on one of those bad loans, but won't do it. What am I going to do? Don't want to screw things up again after starting to make some headway. I did call the mortgage company and the utility company and there is really nothing they can do for me and not sure when which other ones will be returned. UGH!!!!

I'm so sorry, I know the feeling, believe me.
Do you have any credit cards that you can maybe take an advance on? How about a good friend, that might lend you the $ for a bit?
Did you try maybe a loan with Citifinancial or American General Finance? (they usually lend to people with not so great credit, but they denied me!)

OMG that sucks! I know what you mean by 2 steps forward, 5 back. When you live paycheck to paycheck any unexpected expense can throw things upside down.
I wish I had a good solution for you . . . . If I think of something I will let you know. Just know that I am thinking about you!

We have one credit card, and it is barely under the limit due to having to buy car gas. I am 100% sure that Citifinancial or AGF will not lend to us considering that about 3 years ago, they were included on our bankruptcy. To be honest, we only have a few close friends, and they are pretty much in the same boats as we are as far as living paycheck to paycheck and know they do not have the extra money. One of them I am helping them get out of the payday loan trap themselves. We have a lot of accquaintences (I know I spelled that wrong),which are mostly people we work with, but not anyone we would borrow from.
Thanks for the suggestions though.

I am so sorry to hear this. I too am going thru a bad time, but certainly not as bad as what you are facing.
I know you have a loan out with your company, but perhaps if you explain the situation they will advance you a bit more. After all, they know you will repay because you work there.
Also, maybe if you call your bank, as a one time courtesy they will pay the checks as they come in, or at the very least reverse the nfs charges. Its worth a try.
as you said its not your mother in laws fault, but these things always seem to pop up at the worst times
I just remebered, I once bought a non refundable air line ticket and due to an illness I could not use it. I did call the airline and explained the situation. They did give me a refund less $50.00. Again its worth a try. Have your parents call the airline and see if they will help with the ticket
Please keep us posted, and let us know how you are

2ndband, do you have a 401k you can maybe borrow from? I just took out a loan from mine. I know it's not the best option, but when you need it, you need it.

My company has very strict policies regarding loans. If it were a death, then that would be a different matter. I had already talked to my mom about this and she had talked to the airline after I called her and before I posted. They will not do it. The only thing she can do is change the flight dates, for a fee.
Just called the bank and they will not do it. If we had one of their credit cards or the money to cover things in our savings account, they would have considered the NSF fees, but since we don't have either, nope! Thanks for the suggestions kashzan. They were good ideas.

Jen, we did that last year also when we were in a bind from where I had gone in for surgery and was out of work for so long. Still paying that one back also. Can only have one loan at a time with them. They will be paid off in Dec, but doesn't do me any good right now.

Thank you kashzan. I am going to see what else I can come up with. Not sure what I can do, but if I don't try, I will never know.

This may not be a solution but it was for me and my wife when we were in a really bad situation. Gold and silver are at an all time high right now. Gold is at 675.00 an ounce or there about. If you have any old jewelry that is meaningless to you, you would be surprised what a good buyer will pay for it or what a pawn broker will loan you against it. A good buyer will pay 80 to 85% of the current price. An old high school ring will bring around 200.00 right now for example. It is worth thinking about!

I am so sorry to hear about all your troubles 2nBand Hang in there- you are in my thoughts and prayers..Have you asked your mortgage company if they can maybe let you pay on the interest, and add your prinicipal on later? Also, check into your local helping agencies, and see if they can help with utility, meds, etc. My sons girlfriend had to go to the ER, and couldn't fill her prescription, and a local helping agency and pharmacy filled it for her. Good Luck- you're in my prayers..KAren

I do have an old class ring, but it is only 10K gold, not sure what it would bring. Might check into that.
Bossy, had already thought about that, but since we had been late, etc, they won't do that. As far at the other things go, technically we make too much money. I will just keep plugging away and see what I can come up with.
