I finally told my husband of my payday loan stupidity. He was so upset and man did he let me have it. I hate keeping secrets from him but this one, I felt so dumb, I could not tell him. I am now drowning in fees and crap and I had to tell him. It was making me sick. Well after he cooled off- he said we are going to straighten this out. I do feel he is now going to question if I am holding things from him but hopefully, we can get pass this and I think we will. Has anyone else found themselves in my position?

Personally, I can't say I have. Since I am divorced with grown children, I basically have only myself to answer to. I do, however, have a best friend who is the only person I told about my situation. He wasn't condescending or accusatory, but he wished I hadn't gotten myself into the PDL mess. I am glad to say that I have left the PDL world behind me and you will too. Telling your husband was a big step in the right direction. You wlll be able to work it out. Sometimes it just takes a bit for the whole sorrid tale to "sink in", if you will. Keep us posted on your progress.

kcooks - although it must have been a difficult task to tell your husband, it was the right thing to do. Having support to work thru the PDL mess will be a god-send.

As for your loans, perhaps we can help you. Do you need information or help in resolving your PDL's? If so, please list what state you live in, whether the loans are internet or storefront, the principal amount, the total amount paid to date, and who they are with.

Well I stumbled upon this site last week and I have learned so much. For example, I first contacted Langhorne and the service sounds great. But the $289 start up fee, I cannot afford right now. I typed in google "payday hell" and came to this site. So far, I listed my loans on another post, I have found some fax numbers and sent 3 emails to three of my places and I am hoping to get some action with that, this week I am going to place the ach hold on the account. Also, and the most important is I found out every loan is illegal in the state of Illinois. When I read the law, 2 of my loans are overpaid and the other four are close to being paid in full. I know I have a battle ahead of me but I do feel a little relieved that I have some ammunition to fight this. And since my husband is aware, now I can sleep!

Glad that you are working on this.

Please be aware that the ACH hold won't stop those PDL places. When they learn that they can't debit your account, they will convert to a paper check and submit that way. As evidenced by other threads, the safest way to safeguard your account is to close it. You can open another, but you need a way to keep them from having access to your account.

If you listed everything on another thread, then I am sure that the also told you to file complaints on those illegal PDL's. File them with the BBB, FTC but more importantly with the IL AG office. Since they are illegal, you are only responsible for paying back what you actually borrowed. No fees, interest or anything else. Since they are not licensed to lend, then they cannot collect interest or fees.

Also, when you send your letters to the PDL's make sure that you request a PIF when you pay the principal.

Can I add. . . just make sure that you bank account is secured before you send out any letters to the PDLs informing them that they no longer have access to your account. If you don't they will go in and take whatever they can.

Hi-

I had to tell my husband too.....he flipped out - I had 11 PDLs! I followed the advise on this board and handld it myself. You don't need Langhorne you can do this yourself.

sexy27 - try starting your own thread with your questions - you will get more answers that way. If you join this site as a member (free of charge), you will be better able to track your posts under your username.

kcooks - you did the right thing in telling your husband, believe me. Secrets about money have led to the demise of many a relationship. It's a mistake I made in my own marriage years ago, and will never do again. I'm divorced now, and determined not to remarry or even date until I can get a complete handle on my finances and be able to go into a relationship without any financial baggage. It may be years...or it may never happen. But complete honesty about finances is the only way to go. You're exactly right when you say you're concerned that your husband will think you're hiding other things from him, now that you've told him about the PDL issues. He may think that - but now is the time to sit down with him and explain that you got in over your head, and didn't know how to tell him. Make sure he understands that you aren't hiding anything else from him. Maybe it would be good if you two could set up one night a week where you sit down together and go over the finances and bills to be paid for the week, so there's no uncertainty in the future about money.
