I live in Arkansas. I had taken an online payday loan with MTE, and due to slow work, defaulted. On advice from my bank (to stop nsf fees), I closed that account, and have not opened another one. Now, EAD Group LTD, from Columbia, So. Carolina, has taken the loan, and wants payment. They have offered to drop the past late fees, and make arrangements. They want me to use a debit card or credit card, which I have neither. When I asked to use a money order or western union, they said they will not accept payments that way. My work is still slow (I do construction), and what I take home is used to keep rent, utilities, and disabled fiances meds paid with very little left over. They gave me until Friday to give them a payment, or they will send this to their legal department. After, they said it will go to summons, magistrate, appearence, ect. I have talked to them 2 times, from messages left at our work office. Can anybody tell me if all they say will happen, being from a different state, and they are not the original loan company?

Ask the company to validate the debt before you send any thing to the company. There are letters on this site that will help you out. Also I would ask them for their license # to see if the can collect a debt in your state.

Thank you. I am looking for a letter that they had sent me, if it will have that information. If I cannot find the letter, where are the "letters to validate ", and where can I find if they can collect a debt in AR?

They should be in the do it yourself area. You can contact your department of insurance for help or your attorney general's office.

MTE is illegal pretty much everywhere. What state do you live in? Who did you borrow from? How much and how much have you paid back? Was this a storefront or internet PDL?

I too have dealt with Ashley and Jared. Jared was so rude. I am calling the federal trade commision and south carolina consumer affairs also. When they took $423 out of my bank account, My bank cancelled my debit card and sent me another one with a different number. She was telling me that 9 times out of 10, they'll try to swipe your card again..

I have called the federal trades commission and also the south carolina consumer affairs and the BBB. This company has a F rating in Losuiana. I have had to close my account completely. Which cause bounced checks. I really have no faith in getting any money back but at least maybe they will be stopped. I only hope that if everyone that has been scammed will call the FTC and the South Carolina Consumer Affairs that this outfit will be shut down.

I too have dealt with Ashley and Jared. They took money from my account 2 days before my payday causing it to be over drawn. When I called they said there is nothing they can do because I gave them authorization to debit account at any time. Two days later they took remaining balance of $270. They then told me that I was paid in full and they would no longer be debiting my account. Well just yesterday they took $25 out. Now I can't reach Ashley or Jared. Any advice for me?

I have contacted the FTC also. I have closed my account and have contacted the AG's office. Jared and Ashley are two people who I have dealt with. I have also called Ken. He is to be the owner of this group. If we all contact the appropriate agencies maybe this particular group will be shut down and maybe we can get some of our money back. But in order to stop any future debiting from your account you have to close it. I had my bank even contact them and they told the bank that they have the right to charge anywhere from 405% to 1000% interest everytime they debit your account. They can actually do it 3 times a day.

my advice is anyone who owes any of these pay day companies money, DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR CREDIT CARD OR DEBIT CARD NUMBER. Send them a money order or go to western union or money gram.
